JAVON WALKER #84
Wide Receiver
Florida State University
6'3" - 210 lbs.
- He is the first receiver taken by the Packers in the first round since Sterling Sharpe (South Carolina) in 1988.
- This marks the first time Green Bay has selected first-round players from the same school (Florida State) in consecutive years since 1951-52. Fifty years ago, they took QB Babe Parilli in 1952 and T Bob Gain in 1951, both from Kentucky. It also happened in 1942-43 and 1939-40, both instances involving the University of Minnesota.
- Walker is the Packers' fifth first-round selection from Florida State (also WR Barry Smith in 1973, DE Alphonso Carreker in 1984, CB Terrell Buckley in 1992 and DE Jamal Reynolds in 2001). Green Bay has chosen more first rounders from only one other school, Minnesota (seven).
- Walker is the fifth receiver taken by Green Bay in the first round (also Sharpe in 1988, James Lofton in 1978, Smith in 1973 and Larry Elkins in 1965).
- The Packers have selected their first-rounder from the ACC in four of the last five years (also DE Vonnie Holliday, North Carolina, 1998; CB Antuan Edwards, Clemson, 1999; and Reynolds last year).
- For a second straight year, the Packers traded up with Seattle. For the 20th selection and Seattle's fifth-round choice (156th overall), the Packers gave up their first
- and second-rounders (28th, 60th respectively).
- The trade makes this the longest, in terms of selections, the Packers have ever had to wait between their first and second selections
(72 picks between 20 and 92). The previous longest was 1998, when the team traded up with the Dolphins to get Holliday at 19, then had to wait 71 picks to choose DE Jonathan Brown at 90.
