Regular Season - Packers Win 24-23

HEAD COACH MIKE HOLMGREN:

(287K)
Coach Holmgren on his assessment of the team's performance

(on the slow start by the offense) "We just have to keep plugging away at it. The Rams did a nice job mixing things up. I thought their defensive line did a nice job."

(on whether the number of penalties affected the flow of the game) "It had a great effect on the continuity of both teams. We have not been a real penalized team over the years, so when you get a game like this it irritates you."

(on whether he considered benching Bill Schreoder after his fumble) "I thought maybe his forward progress had stopped, but Billy has got to hold on to the ball - that's his job. I might open (the punt return spot) up agin this week. We'll see what happens."

(on taking three points off the board in the fourth quarter) "We didn't do a very good job there. Then I was kicking myself. But at the time it was a fairly easy decision for me. Had it been a real long field goal, I might have kept the points."

QUARTERBACK Brett Favre
(on converting some deep throws) "Free (Antonio Freeman) and Robert (Brooks) just kind of ran by them. When we guessed right, we hit it. Normally we don't go deep."

(on his touchdown run) "It was a coverage where it was man across the board, with two linebackers on each side in cut coverage. They were rushing four (linemen), which means no one was on the quarterback. I told Dorsey if he could beat the linebacker, it was wide open. But I'd much rather throw (touchdowns). It's more exciting to throw them."

(on why the offense is starting slow) "I have no idea. I would like to be scoring early, but I do know that we're 8-2 and there is always room for improvement. . Sure, we'd like to do some things better. There's some throws I'd like to have back. But we're 8-2."

(on the performance of the running game) "I think it was OK. I assume their philosophy was to blitz no matter what and force us to do some things we didn't want to do. dorsey did have 82 yards. If he gets it five more times, he probably gets 100."

(on whether the Packers are starting to feel invincible at home) "That's what it's starting to get to. And we can't lose that mentality, we have to take it on the road with us. There is something different about this place - you can tell by our record."

WIDE RECEIVER ANTONIO FREEMAN:
(on catching some deep throws) "We went into the game knowing we'd get a lot of man-to-man coverage, so we worked on it in practice all week. brett threw some great passes and our deep ball threat was successful."

(on matching up with Ran Mc) "He plays inside leverage, so he allows you to do whatever you want to outside. When I was able to get separation, the ball was right there."

(on the slow start by the offense) "We have too many weapons not to be successful. It's just a matter of time."

CORNERBACK DOUG EVANS:
(on matching up with Is sac Bruce) "Whatever we need to do to be successful, I'm definitely for it. It feels good when the coaches have confidence in you to match you against one of the best receivers in the league."

(on whether his play frees up other defenders to make plays) "Any time you can match a guy up one-on-one on one side of the field, then you can get your other good players into the game. If LeRoy (butler) is able to blitz, he is going to make those plays."
