Green Bay vs. Kansas City - Postgame Quotes - Green Bay

Pre-Season - Packers Win 27-24

COACH HOLMGREN'S POSTGAME COMMENTS:

(on his initial impressions) "Initially, I was very, very angry. And then my younger guys went in the game, and played well. We made a lot of mistakes, which in the long run probably will help us because it allows us to teach off this game.

"We didn't start the game very well - the two turnovers. And that can happen. So we'll learn a lot from this game.

"And also our sideline - how we handle the sideline. It got kind of crowded. But we won, so that's a good feeling."

(on his feelings on the kicking situation) "The two kickers? We alternated them and we're going to alternate them all preseason. So, I think when I called the kick on third down, you know, Brett (Conway), it was his turn to kick a field goal. And, they go over to that net (to practice). And (subsequent to Conway's miss) that's why I had Ryan (Longwell) next to me (chuckle) on the last one."

(on Glyn Milburn's performance) "He did a nice job. That's why we got him - to return kicks. And he did a good job from the line of scrimmage as well."

(on whether he is going to let Milburn ride the 'Harley' he won as the game's MVP) "No...no...He can look at it, though. It's a beautiful bike. I'd rather he didn't do that (ride the 'Harley'). Football is hazardous enough."

(on whether Ross Verba was 'late a few times getting off on the snap count') "I don't know if he was late, but the first time, that's what created the turnover and their first touchdown - Derrick Thomas just beat him around the edge. That'll happen - he's a good player."

(on the play of the backup quarterbacks) "I think, initially, it was okay. Matt (Hasselbeck) was a little excited in there - did a couple of wild things. Doug (Pederson) handled himself pretty well and David Klingler did a pretty good job."

(on whether Bill Schroeder made 'a statement' with his 155-yard receiving performance) "Well, he caught a couple of nice balls at the end, gave us a chance to win the game. So that was important. And he caught the touchdown pass. So he had a pretty good game. But it's real competitive for those positions now - our fourth and fifth receivers. So Bill took a good step forward today."

(on the defense) "Well, you know, we were a little nicked up over there. We didn't have a lot of defensive backs to put in there, so Anthony Fogle had to play the whole game. Roosevelt Blackmon played a lot. We didn't have any corners. So, given those kind of circumstances, I think it was OK. I thought battling back from being down 14-nothing, they hung in there, and our younger guys got a chance to play and really feel pretty good about themselves."

(on Vonnie Holliday having looked 'pretty good') "Yeah, he did...yeah he did. But I expect him to. You know, he's a number one pick and he's a good football player, so I expect him to be good."

(on having offensive coordinator Sherman Lewis on the sideline, rather than in the press box, his customary game-time location) "We're experimenting a little bit with how we're moving coaches around. Not because of Sherm, but I wasn't particularly pleased with the way we handled today's game - from the coaching aspect that way. It was a little crowded, a little noisy. But I'm going to try a couple of different combinations in the preseason, and I'll decide how we'll do it when it (the preseason) ends. I just want to take a look at some different combinations. I want to be able to communicate the best way possible - have the best eyes upstairs I can have, get the information conveyed the best way. So the preseason gives us a chance to work some different combinations."

(on what he was 'mad about' to start with) "The turnovers. We had three plays, two turnovers and they had 14 points. That was awful."

(on the highlight of the Tokyo trip for him) "I thought the whole trip was a good trip. As I said before, I don't think it's a bad thing to bring the guys over to a different country and let them experience some of that stuff. And then, as long as they handled it well. I thought they handled it well, they practiced well, they were pretty good off the field. The only thing that disappointed me, probably, about the whole trip, was the first five minutes of the game."

THE PLAYER PERSPECTIVE:

Brett Favre (on the Packers' off-key start offensively) "You try to execute with a lot of guys in there and it's hard to get the rhythm. But we enjoyed our trip. It's fun, but we're looking forward to getting back."

(on Head Coach Mike Holmgren having been 'real hot' about the early turnovers) "Well, you know, Mike is a competitor - he wants to win, no matter when we're playing - the first preseason game or the Super Bowl. And that's what you want in a coach. And you can't blame him. We want to win, too. I thought we were a little anxious - we pressed a little bit. (But) that's why we play preseason games. We play four more before we start for real."

(on the highlight of the trip) "I don't know. Probably getting the team over here (to play a game). People were very nice and it was a short trip (stay). I didn't get to visit too much or see a lot of things, but we enjoyed it."

(on having to go into overtime) "Both clubs wanted to get it over with. Our sleep patterns were screwed up a little bit, so I think everyone was getting a little frustrated. But, like I said, we had fun and I'm glad we won the ball game. We'll get better from itŠand we play the Saints next week."

Travis Jervey (on his strong rushing performance) "It was just great to be starting - that's what was great. I felt real relaxed and calm - just like practice. I felt real good."

(on his 14.4-yard rushing average) "I didn't carry it after five minutes into the second quarter."

Glyn Milburn (on his performance) "I want to be a part of the offense. I don't want to just be a specialist. This is just one preseason game, so I want to take this with a grain of salt. I hope I'm showing something blocking or running that maybe they didn't think I could."
