Green Bay vs. New Orleans - Postgame Quotes - Green Bay

Pre-Season - Packers Win 31-7

HEAD COACH MIKE HOLMGREN:
(assessment of first-team offense) "It was really important that they get off to a good start. As you know I was not pleased with how we came out of the gate in the game against Kansas City in Japan. Usually the guys will respond to that challenge. They have a lot of pride and have a chance to be a good offensive football team and they executed much, much better tonight."

(on the play of Travis Jervey) "He played pretty well tonight. He's doing a good job and each time he carries the ball in each game, he's going to get that much better and it gives me a little better feeling about our situation right now."

(on what Jervey is doing differently) "He's getting a chance now, to play and run. Obviously now he is holding on to the football. He let one go tonight, but I think that that was one of those fumbles that was not careless, but I believe it was one of those that just happens. But, he came right back on the next carry and popped a long run."

(on the penalties) "It's awful, it's disgraceful. I think we had 11 last week and we had that many if not more tonight, and it just cannot be that way. That was really the bulk of my talk to the team after the game. We were very happy with the outcome of the game; we always go out there and try to win the game, but we can't continue to be that sloppy. We've never been a very penalized team, and it's just not very good and we are going to correct that."

(on David Klingler's play) "Dave had a rough outing tonight, and he'll be the first one to tell you that. But, that happens -- he's new to our system. He gets in there and a couple of bad things happen and nothing works. It's early in the preseason and he'll get another shot at it and I'm sure he'll play much better the next time he gets in there."

(on Craig Newsome's return) "It's good to have him back on the field. He was very, very excited prior to the game. We made a decision prior to the game if the field was real wet or slippery, I may not have played him. He was really fighting me on that and then it turned out to be a nice evening. He was probably the happiest guy on the field to get back out there playing. He's going to be fine. We missed him last year and it's good to have him back."

(on the play of Derrick Mayes) "It was a big game for Derrick. He was one of the players that we tried to focus on tonight. He played a much better football game than he did in the opener, and we need him to play that way."

QUARTERBACK BRETT FAVRE:
(on the play of the starting offensive unit) "We wanted to come out better than we did last week. Obviously, two turnovers in the first two drives last week was not good, so we wanted to redeem ourself and try to put together at least two good drives and score, and we knew we'd be out of the game if we did that. We got it together and ran the football well. When we passed it, we completed it. And went for it on fourth down one time and made a great play."

SAFETY LeROY BUTLER: (on the play of the starting defensive unit) "I thought we played much better than we did in Japan, so that goes to show that we do have the talent here. First group, we didn't play very well in Japan, so we needed to come out and redeem ourselves, and I think we did that."

RUNNING BACK TRAVIS JERVEY:
(on his 44-yard touchdown run) "The offensive line, all night, was doing a great job, and they just sealed it off and I was able to catch the corner. (Running Backs Coach) Harry (Sydney) has been working with me to stay more patient. Emory Smith threw a great block, and let me get to the end zone."

(on his game as a whole) "Honestly, I think that's some of the best blocking I've ever run behind, going back to high school. That's not just a running back talking. Some of those holes were huge."
