The Packers' generosity proved their undoing against the Raiders, who first turned an Eric Turner interception to immediate profit in the eleventh minute of the first quarter. Picking off a Brett Favre pass which had bounced off the chest of Packers wideout Antonio Freeman, Turner raced 35 yards down the east sideline into the end zone untouched.

The Californians also took quick advantage of two other, back-to-back turnovers in the second quarter, both coming on fumbles by Doug Pederson, who had replaced Favre at quarterback. Mike Morton recovered the first of them at the Green Bay 20-yard line and, two plays later, quarterback Donald Hollas hit tight end Rickey Dudley, who threaded his way into the end zone on a 17-yard maneuver.

Two plays following the succeeding kickoff, Oakland's Calvin Branch recovered Pederson's second fumble at the Green Bay 39-yard line. Stalled on third-and-7 at the Green Bay 36, the Raiders called upon specialist Greg Davis and he delivered a 54-yard field goal to mount a 17-0 Oakland lead.

Two exchanges later, the Packers finally got themselves on the scoreboard - with the aid of a highly opportune pass interception by free safety Mike Prior, who returned his theft 13 yards to the Raiders' 36-yard line before being pushed out of bounds.

It took Pederson only 5 plays from there, including a 10-yard pass to tight end Mark Chmura and a 12-yarder to Bill Schroeder - to get the Packers on the scoreboard. He completed the project with a 14-yard strike to Derrick Mayes, who gathered in the football on the goal line and barged into the end zone.

With Brett Conway's conversion, the Packers closed to 17-7. But the Raiders promptly set off on another excursion, marching 73 yards in 12 plays to a third touchdown - this one on a 25-yard Hollas pass to wide receiver Rodney Williams - to send the visitors into the intermission with a 24-7 lead.

It was, as it turned out, all the points they were subsequently to need.

Pederson, marshaling a 59-yard drive, next narrowed it to 24-14 with approximately 5 minutes left in the third quarter, finishing off the trek with a 17-yard throw to wide receiver Roell Preston.

The Raiders, however, retaliated with a 68-yard drive of their own, closing out their scoring for the afternoon with a 30-yard field goal by Davis just before the period ended.

With David Klingler at quarterback, the Packers moved into field goal range, largely on the quick feet of Travis Jervey, who rolled up 38 yards in three attempts, carrying Green Bay to the Oakland 28-yard line. There, however, the drive stalled, and Conway's 46-yard field goal attempt was wide left.

After two subsequent and unproductive exchanges, the Packers closed it to 27-21 with the longest drive of the day, a 10-play, 88-yard march authored by Klingler, who hit rookie Corey Bradford with a 5-yard pass for the score. The major items en route were a 34-yard completion to former Wisconsin Badger Lee DeRamus and a 26-yard strike to tight end Tyrone Davis.

With less than a minute left, the Packers essayed an onside kick but it went out of bounds, after which the Raiders ran off two plays to use up the remaining "clock."

Of the Packers' three quarterbacks, Klingler put up the most imposing numbers, completing 12 of 20 passes for 124 yards and one touchdown. Pederson weighed in with a 9-for-17 performance, good for 108 yards and 2 scores and Favre hit on 3 of 8 attempts for 53 yards, with one interception.

Jervey, for the third consecutive week, was the Packers' leading rusher, gaining 60 yards in 8 attempts, a 7.4-yard average. He also caught 4 passes for 8 yards.
