Green Bay vs. Philadelphia - Postgame Quotes - Green Bay

Regular Season - Packers Win 24-16

HEAD COACH MIKE HOLMGREN:

(on the performance of receivers Derrick Mayes and Bill Schroeder) "Billy made some plays. And that's what we've talked about all week, and what we've talked about for the last few years. If people get hurt, it's part of the game, unfortunately, but whoever steps up has to step up and play, and I thought those fellas did a nice job today."

(on Antonio Freeman's injury) "Freeman has a fracture in the jaw. They're working through it to see. From what I understand, it's not as bad as Doug (Pederson, who also broke his jaw his season). I saw Free in there and he could talk to me -- Doug couldn't talk to me (when he was injured). But whatever they saw (in the x-ray), they saw a little bit."

(on Mark Chmura's injury) "He sprained his ankle. I don't think (he's out next week)."

(on running back Dorsey Levens' return) "He came out of it fine. He wanted to play. The medical staff said he could play. So the debate we had was whether to have his first action be in the Monday night game against Tampa, or let him get his feet wet. The time was right for him to play today. He's doing all the right stuff and practicing well. There are some mental things to get over, and I think he did that tonight."

(on playing a 2-9 team after a tuff game against Minnesota) "At times, we played a little sloppy. Gained a lot of yards, did some good things on defense. Too many penalties. Had some turnovers. That's what you're fighting in a week like this."

(on the play of Eagles quarterback Koy Detmer) "This was his first NFL start. He comes from a pretty good pedigree. His brother's (Ty) a good friend of mine. You expected him to come in and be poised and play pretty well."

(on whether injured defenders Vonnie Holliday and Craig Newsome will practice next week) "I'm pretty sure Holliday will. Newsome, maybe later in the week."

(on guard Marco Rivera's injury) "He's got an MCL."

(on how long Rivera could be out) "I don't know."

"We were moving the ball pretty well and not getting much from it. And that's too bad. I think early on that was a frustration."

QUARTERBACK BRETT FAVRE:

(on his gesturing back and forth with Koy Detmer) "We were just goofing off. He's just like his brother, Ty -- goofy. But you know what? He's a good guy. He played well, and I'm happy for him. Ty's one of my best friends, and watching Koy out there, it's just like watching Ty. He looks just like him.

"Injuries are a factor always, and I think we've been hit as hard as anyone. Guys have to step up. Bill Schroeder stepped up and played extremely well, and that's what you have to do. Who knows who's going to play next week? It's nice to see guys step up. Joe Andruzzi came in for Marco, and he played well. That's what it's all about. In order for us to get to where we want to be, we have a long ways to go in every area. We know injuries will play a part in it. But you can't make excuses. You just have to step up."

(on how much good his leadership and cheerleading did on the sidelines) "I think everyone, I don't know how they take me, because I don't know how to take myself sometimes. I get excited. I think people feed off of that -- I know the fans do, I know our players do. I enjoy playing this game as much as anyone. I always tell the guys, 'We need to make a big play,' and I always think it's going to be me. I just hope it gets people going. The game can be boring at times, I just try not to let it be.

"Our running game, having Dorsey (Levens) and Darick (Holmes) as one-two punches is awesome. The last three games, we've run the ball well, and that's been the difference. It opens the passing game up. At the end of the game there, we just ran the ball well, and they knew we were going to run it -- that's nice to see. When teams don't know what to play, it makes a difference. And to see Darick run the ball was great. Our offensive line, I think they're getting to where they want to be."

(on the early offensive struggle to score) "We had some chances to score. I threw the pick in the red zone (in the first half). At worst, we get three points there. But you know, football is football, and last week we were two-for-two in the red zone against a very good Minnesota team. And tonight, you never know. At the end of the game, we put it in (the end zone). We should have done that earlier, but that's the way it goes. The bottom line is winning the ball game. A win's a win. We just have to step up in big games, and from now on, every game's a big game. Every quarter, every play, counts."

(on Bill Schroeder) "We're calling his number a little bit more. The confidence I have in him is as much as I have in any other receiver. He's playing well. It makes a difference when you throw the ball to him and he catches it and makes yards after the catch. He'd be the first to tell you, and I've said this all along, he's maturing. He wants the ball."

WIDE RECEIVER BILL SCHROEDER:

"I think my progression's about 10-fold. You can see how I've progressed since I was a rookie, especially since last year. I've been more precise on my routes and Brett's been giving me some great balls. A lot of credit goes to him. He's been saying all along that I can play in this league, and he's given me the confidence to keep working hard.

"I like the pressure a lot. I know there's a job to be done. I'm not trying to go out there and make the best plays in the world, I'm just trying to do what I'm supposed to do. Brett threw me some good balls, and I was able to make the plays."

(on his tough catch along the sideline on third down toward the end of the game) "They played so soft I was wide open."

(on Brett Favre) "He is the greatest quarterback I've ever seen. You can expect that ball to come out anywhere at any time. I just make sure I'm running 100 percent every time I'm running a pass play -- even when you're not the main read on the play.

"Unfortunately, Robert (Brooks) had to go down for me to get the start today. All I can say is I've stepped in and made the plays I was supposed to make."

"All season I've had to know every position. This week I was able to focus on just the 'Z' position, so it worked out a little bit better for me."

RUNNING BACK DARICK HOLMES:

(on the return of Dorsey Levens) "I'm glad to have Dorsey back because he helped me out. When I got tired, he came in and made positive yards. Hopefully we can come back next week and be the best tandem in the NFL. He's a great back, and I feel I'm a great back. I just have to keep making plays when my turn comes, and he has to keep making plays when his turn comes.

"When my line blocked to get me a certain amount of yards, and I don't get them, I get down on myself. I had 163 (yards), but I feel like I could have had more."

(on why he came out on long drives in favor of Levens) "I was taking myself out because my adrenaline was going so much because I was happy to be starting at Lambeau. My adrenaline was pumping, so I was losing energy.

"Everybody was getting on the line at the beginning of the year. It wasn't the line. They're blocking the same way, we're running the same plays. I'm just patient, letting them make their blocks and making the right cuts."
