Green Bay vs. Chicago - Postgame Quotes - Green Bay

Regular Season - Packers Win 26-20

COACH HOLMGREN'S POSTGAME COMMENTS:

(on injuries) "We had a couple shoulders - Darick Holmes and Jude Waddy. The extent of the injuries, we won't know until tomorrow. But they banged their shoulders pretty good." (on Craig Newsome) "It was the cut on his knee - that was the injury. He just felt he couldn't go. As far as Antonio (Freeman) goes, I think the longer we go the better (his jaw) begins to knit. It was a courageous effort, and now he knows he can play."

(on Antonio Freeman's play) "He came to play. It means a lot to this football team to have him back on the field. It makes a big difference."

(on Brett Favre's play this season) "I think he's hung in there. He has battled through some aches and pains, which every great player has to do. When he's losing weapons or teammates around him due to injury, he's managed to hold it together and kind of continue to be the leader of the football team, obviously. He got us to this point - we're 9-5, and we still have a chance to get into the playoffs. Everything hasn't gone as smoothly as years past. He's got such a gun. But sometimes he makes me a little bit nervous because he flicks it over there a little bit late because he knows he can get it there." (Smiles, shakes his head) "He's quite a young man, our quarterback."

(on the offensive line's play) "I think the Bears put pretty good pressure on us early. Then as the game went along, I thought we did a better job of protecting and a better job of run-blocking."

(on Dorsey Levens) "He's coming along well and doing some good things. Is he in mid-season form? No. He may never be this season, but it's encouraging what he did today."

(on Edgar Bennett and Glyn Milburn) "Those are two pretty good football players, in my opinion. And if I there had been a way for me to keep them here, I would have done it. Edgar is one of my all-time favorite guys. I knew he'd play well against us. Glyn I think is happy and is doing a good job with the Bears. It worked out for everybody."

"I think the game was a field position game. We had lousy field position. We gained a lot of yards, but it was a lot of effort getting down to that end of the field and we ended up kicking field goals. I wasn't happy with our execution in certain areas, particularly in the Red Zone."

"We did not play very well on special teams today."

(on whether he'll get some injured players back next week) "I'm hopeful Tyrone (Davis) can come back. (Robert) Brooks and (Vonnie) Holliday, I don't know. And I'm not sure about Tyrone."

WIDE RECEIVER ANTONIO FREEMAN:

(on whether you can really forget a broken jaw during the game) "No, because there's always some way you can get hit. My voice is sore, I've had a cold all week. You've just got to put it behind you and help your team the best you can. My team needs me. I need to be with my team right now. I wanted to play last week, but it wouldn't have been the right idea."

(on how he felt during the game) "I was free of pain."

"I felt rusty today. In the locker room before the game, I felt like it was my first NFL game. I haven't been nervous in awhile, but I was really nervous. But once I got that first hit, I think the slant on the fourth-and-one, and all those guys jumped on me..."

(on whether the jaw is better or worse than breaking his arm in 1996) "I think it's worse. You can protect the forearm, but you see shots all the time to the head. Once I got that first hit, I was playing like a wild man. Sometimes I think I'm crazy, sometimes I think I'm stupid, but I think I made the right move by coming back this week."

(on whether he maintained his weight while his jaw was wired shut) "I only lost three pounds. My mother stayed in town so she could take care of me."

QUARTERBACK BRETT FAVRE:

"Guys get hurt and we have to go on. I don't worry about that any more."

(on the Packers-Bears rivalry) "I think it's just another game for us. I think the fans and the media make it into a bigger deal than it is."

"The last three or four weeks our running game has really picked it up. In order to get into the playoffs and make something of it, we have to run the ball well. We have two backs who can do it. I'm very happy with how our running game's going."

(on Levens' 50-yard run) "That was a great run by Dorsey. I was just running with him. I was hoping to get a block. Like I would catch him. I was excited. I'm happy for Dorsey. It's been a rough year for him, and he bounced back. That was a great run in a crucial situation."

(on how he bounced back from the interception for a touchdown to win the game) "Bad things happen sometimes. I didn't even blink - didn't even think about it. Walt Harris made a great play - he guessed right on the slant. There was nothing I could do about it. So what do you do? You either pack it up or get excited for the next drive. That's just the way I play all the time."

(on Reggie White) "I think he's the Defensive Player of the Year, I really do. He's got, what, 16 sacks - for a guy who's going to retire, who has a bad back, a bad hamstring. I couldn't be more proud of a guy. I tried to talk him into coming back Friday but he said he wants $48 million this year. I don't know what to believe with Reggie. But I tell you what, I'm glad he's on my team."

DORSEY LEVENS:

(on whether the 50-yarder shows he's all the way back) "If I was 100 percent, I'd have been in the end zone. A little tired, little sore. I don't know if I'll be back before the season is over. But I'm on my way back."

(on the cutback for the 50-yarder) "Actually, I was just trying to stop because every time I went outside on that particular play, Marty Carter went for my knees. I just happened to cut back and break another tackle."

"I can't run as fast as I used to, but I'm trying to be a little more patient and see the field a little better."

(on Freeman's block on the 50-yard run) "Actually I was trying to wave him down and stop so I could jump on his back so he could carry me to the end zone. That's the only way I could have gotten in there."
