Kohls Countdown To Kickoff
Gameday / 1998 / December 13 / Odds And Ends
Green Bay vs. Chicago - Odds and Ends

Regular Season - Packers Win 26-20

-The Packers' victory over the Bears marked the team's ninth win in a row over their ancient enemies, the longest streak by either team in the series.

-The Packers' ninth victory of the season assures the team of a winning campaign for the seventh year in a row, the best streak since the team won nine in a row from 1959 through 1967.

-Ryan Longwell's 35-yard first quarter field goal propelled him to 101 points for the season, his second-consecutive season of 100 or more points. Longwell, who scored 120 points in 1997, is only the third player in team annals to post such back-to-back, 100-point seasons. Don Hutson was the first, posting a then NFL-record 138 points in 1942 and 117 in 1943, and Paul Hornung the second, with 176 in 1960 (the existing league mark) and 146 in 1961. Longwell later added three more field goals to establish a single-game career high with four. His 15 total points today established a new single-game high, surpassing the 13 points he scored at New York vs. the Giants on Nov. 15 of this year.

-The Packers held the Bears to 11 passing and 75 total yards in the first half.

-Roell Preston established a two new single-season kickoff return records today: for number of returns, 50, and yards, 1,344. He surpassed Dave Hampton's 1,314 yards, set in 1971, with a 23-yard return early in the third quarter. He surpassed Hampton's previous one-season return mark of 46 with his return of the game's opening kickoff.

-Mark Chmura moved into 15th place on the Packers' career receiving list today with 5 receptions.

-Antonio Freeman finished the day with 8 catches for 103 yards, marking his fifth 100-yard game of the season and the 12th of his career. His five 100-yard games this season establishes a new career high (four in '97).

--Dorsey Levens rushed for 105 yards on 15 carries, his first 100-yard rushing game of the season and the seventh of his career.

-Reggie White registered his 16th sack of the season with a late game takedown of Steve Stenstrom, his best season total since 1988 when he notched 18 quarterback sacks as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. In the process, Stenstrom became the 71st quarterback to be sacked by White during his career.

-Billy Lyon registered his first quarterback sack, felling Stenstrom for a 7-yard loss to help thwart a late Chicago threat.
