Green Bay vs. Tennessee - Postgame Quotes - Green Bay

Regular Season - Packers Win 30-23

COACH HOLMGREN'S POSTGAME COMMENTS:
"I thought we ran the ball well. We had some big plays in the passing game, our special teams had a really good day after not having such a good day, I thought, the week before. It'd be nice if it all came into place here now. And that's what I'm hoping for. We get some guys back next week, I think, that have been nicked up. At least they could play in that game next week, but certainly I think I'll have them for the first round in the playoffs. So, that's encouraging as well."

(on whether Favre came out of the game due to injury) "No, he got banged around a little bit, so I just took him out. When he starts running that much, and we were leading at the time, and I didn't want him to have to play the game that way. Once I took him out, he's out."

(on Reggie White) "He's a very interesting man, and it's been a privilege to be around him, work with him, share ideas with him, argue with him. We all know he's a special football player, that goes without saying. You may not agree with what he says off the field. But no one can question his honesty, his feeling for people, his caring for people, and what he has meant to this organization. I hope we continue to be friends for a long time."

(on Mark Chmura's status) "He has a strained calf muscle, and it happened on the second play of the game."

(on Tennessee's defense) "Tennessee plays a lot of man (coverage). They give you looks, their defense creates problems for you in seeing what they do. They create some indecision. As soon as there's indecision, the quarterback, Brett Favre or anybody, the guys that can run, they kinda get out of the jam by running. And I thought that was starting to happen again. He took a pretty good hit on the sidelines going for a first down."

"Jeff Thomason came in, caught a few balls and played well."

(on the better execution today) "Well, I think when you're concentrating, and you're focused, and you're maybe sick and tired of doing something, and you say, 'I'm not going to do it any more,' sometimes you don't do it any more. Historically, if we don't turn the ball over, we win. And if we do (turn it over), it makes it a lot harder."

(on whether he'll play his key injured players next week) "I probably won't. (Vonnie) Holliday is close to playing. (Robert) Brooks is close to playing. (Craig) Newsome is close to playing, and (Darick) Holmes is close to playing. If I can play the game next week without playing those guys, I'm going to try and do it. But we have to talk about it, because of San Francisco losing."

"We put Freeman in the backfield, and created just a little bit of a problem, and then they got confused, and obviously they didn't cover him. They blitzed, and he got lost in there. The second one was actually a Brett scramble. We were in our no-huddle offense. And 'Free' kind of snuck in behind, Brett was running around, saw him. The third one was a short-yardage play that I said, 'What the heck? Let's try one.' We made the play-fake, got him singled up and it was a beautiful throw and catch. Freeman had a great game. He made a few plays where you saw he had forgotten about the jaw."

(on the play of center Jeff Dellenbach and the offensive line) "I think Jeff, if you have to lose your starting center, and it's a big loss -- Frank means a lot to this team -- it's nice to have a guy like Delly at center. He's a veteran who knows how to play the game, has played a lot of games, big games. Tennessee has made a point of not allowing the other teams to run the ball on them all year. We knew we had our work cut out for us. I think our offensive line rose to the challenge and had a great game."

(on Dorsey Levens) "If he was in mid-season form, he would have gone big...Maybe we can hit this just right."

QUARTERBACK BRETT FAVRE:
(on his second touchdown pass) "The one long one to Free (Antonio Freeman), the second one, was a busted play. We had great protection. It was really supposed to go in the flat to either Jeff Thomason or a slant on either side. If you noticed, I peeked at Free to kinda get the coverage to go one way, and went back the other way and they covered it. We did some things to offset the two tight ends not being in there."

(on Antonio Freeman) "It seemed like every time I turned around he was open and making big plays. What happens is you throw the ball to a guy and he's making plays, in the back of your mind, even if he's not the primary guy, you start depending on him a little bit. I think we're seeing it with Minnesota right now, and we saw if for years in San Francisco. If you don't cover the guy, you keep throwing it to him. We always say, 'Why don't you triple-team a guy like that?' Well, eventually a good player's going to find a way to rise to the top. And Free's that kind of a player."

(on Reggie White) "We've become great friend over the years, we really have. I feel honored to be on his team and to be a friend of his. On the sidelines, he said, 'I love you,' and I said, 'I love you,' and I'm hoping he'll come back for another year because he's playing great. More than likely he won't. To see the year he has had is remarkable."

(on the Oilers' defense) "They'll take chances and give up the big play in turn for a turnover or a big sack. And we capitalized on that, whether it was my running, whether it was Antonio catching the ball, or broken plays, we were sharp in that area, and that's how you have to be coming into a big game like this."

"We have a long ways to go, but I feel very comfortable of where we're going."

DEFENSIVE END REGGIE WHITE:
"The emotion really hit me after the game. You know, walking around the field and just to see how the people express themselves to me makes it hard to leave the game. It's hard to explain how it felt going around the stadium there at the end, and throughout the game how the people were responding to me. I just thank God for the opportunity to play in front of these people for six years and to have been a part of bringing in a championship. It's an extreme honor to have played for the Green Bay Packers and to play for the Packer fans."

(any possibility he could come back?) "It could happen if He tells me to. That's the only way it could happen. Then you guys will tell me I'm crazy again."

(on if he wishes he had had a sack in the game) "We won, and that's the most important thing."

(on his biggest memory from today) "The end. Going around the field. I wanted to express myself to them by bidding them a farewell. I hope and pray that this organization continues to be successful and build to win championships. Because if I'm convinced of one thing, it's that football-wise, these people deserve it."

WIDE RECEIVER ANTONIO FREEMAN:
"I forgot about the jaw last week. Whenever I step out on that football field, anything goes. And I knew that when I came back last week. So when I get out there, I just play with reckless abandon, and that's what I did today. Even though I think the last pass the guy had a pretty good shot on me, and I hesitated for a minute, but those are things that are going to be expected."

(did he know he'd get a clean release on his first touchdown play?) "No, I didn't, but we knew they like to blitz, and I think they didn't expect me to line up in the backfield and go in motion. I think that threw them off, and when I caught the ball, I dropped down to catch it, and I looked around, and thought, 'Oh, my goodness,' and it was just wide open."

(on why he is so successful) "I think I have a lot of ability. I think my film study is more than adequate. And I think a lot of the credit has to go to his coaching staff...They do a good job of isolating me one-on-one."
