Green Bay vs. Oakland - Postgame Quotes - Green Bay
Regular Season - Packers Win 28-24
HEAD COACH RAY RHODES: overall impressions of the game: "I have to give Jon Gruden and the Raiders a lot of credit because those guys came in here and fought us and took us down to the wall. I just wanted to get the ball into number four's hands. That was a remarkable job by the offense as far as getting that ball down there. We made enough mistakes, turning the ball over, to last us three or four games. We just have to clean those things up."
on winning his first game as Packers head coach: "Quite naturally I'm excited. Like I've said all along, this tradition is a pride that has been built here. It is something that is going to drive men. I'm a little down because we got into that (a tight game) situation, but there is a lot of tradition and pride and I'm just glad to be a part of it."
on what pleased him about today's game: "It was great to see so many guys psyched to get back into this game. Our team had to fight to get back into this game, determined to do whatever was necessary to win the football game. The Packer character showed at the end of this game."
on the play of the rookie defensive backs: "That was baptism. You see Fred Vinson running with James Jett. That's world class speed there, and Fred will learn that nobody can run with a guy that has gold medals for sprinting. He'll learn to bump him and use his hands."
QUARTERBACK BRETT FAVRE on his thumb affecting his throwing: "I was a little nervous about throwing the ball down field. I could hardly feel the ball."
on when he injured his thumb: "The first time, I guess I jammed it on a helmet. The second time I got it smushed by a helmet."
WIDE RECEIVER BILL SCHROEDER on his touchdown reception: "It was one of those things. Brett checked and saw that they were playing a little zone coverage and he just made a great pass."
TIGHT END JEFF THOMASON on his touchdown reception: "It was just a play where we all spread out and get a chance for someone like Tyrone (Davis) or Mark (Chmura) to get into a corner to get up and use our height to get a ball. I am the second read there; I just happened to pop open over the middle."
WIDE RECEIVER COREY BRADFORD on his first NFL touchdown reception: "We all just lined up and went out, ran the right play. I just put it in my mind that if the ball comes to me, I need to catch it because we were behind and we need to win. It was intended for Free (Antonio Freeman), but he didn't mind."
CORNERBACK MIKE McKENZIE on his NFL start: "It was just an unbelievable experience. I've never been involved in anything like this before. I was just out there in a zone -- I was trying to focus in, I was concentrating on my assignments and trying to make plays when they came my way."
LINEBACKER BERNARDO HARRIS on the defense's performance: "The defense came out and we made some adjustments at halftime. We shut down the run early. They threw a play out that we had never seen in the preseason which caused some problems. We tightened up and we made some plays, and did what we had to do in the end to win the game."
CORNERBACK ANTUAN EDWARDS on the come-from-behind win: "It was great. Unbelievable. Watching Brett Favre do the things he can do. This is my first year on the team, and I didn't watch too many Green Bay games, but today I learned you can never count him out."
TIGHT END TYRONE DAVIS on the two-minute drill: "That was the best two-minute drill I've ever seen. I mean, no timeouts, we kind of drove the ball down there. I mean...Wow. We didn't commit any penalties, everyone was focused on scoring."
LINEBACKER BRIAN WILLIAMS on his play today: "This was the ultimate game. A home game. I just wanted to go out there and make the plays. We just did what we had to do to win the game. We got put in a position where our offense made some turnovers. When you get put in that position, you have to make some plays."
