Kohls Countdown To Kickoff
Gameday / 2000 / October 15 / Green Bay
Green Bay vs. San Francisco - Postgame Quotes - Green Bay

Regular Season - Packers Win 31-28

HEAD COACH MIKE SHERMAN:

(on the game) "I'm certainly happy that we won this game. It certainly makes the bye week more enjoyable. You build on confidence and hopefully we can build on that.

"We didn't bury ourselves in the first quarter like we've done in the past. Not burying ourselves with turnovers certainly helped us."

(on quarterback Brett Favre) "He had his 31st birthday this past week and it looked like he had his 21st birthday out there today. He makes me nervous, but he did what he had to do to help us win that football game. He made some tremendous plays today.

"If he's moving the football, it's hard to discourage Brett Favre from moving around."

(on Ahman Green's first touchdown) "I thought is was extraordinary. It was really the catalyst that got us going. I thought both of our backs did an outstanding job today."

(on the review of Bill Schroeder's catch) "Billy was adament that he caught it. I learned a valuable lesson there. To this point, he still says he caught it. He says the video is wrong. We do tell them, if something is reviewable and you have caught the football, to let us know."

(on the interference call in the end zone on the 49ers) "I'm not going to question anything that goes our way right now. It was a great call by the official."

QUARTERBACK BRETT FAVRE:

(on his ability to scramble) "I'm a little sore, but I'm still escaping a little bit. I have no choice.

"It's reaction and that's just part of playing the game. They blitzed us probably every snap and you can't block everybody, so sometimes you either get drilled or make a play. I prefer to make a play.

"It's fun when you win and when they work. When you get older it gets a little tougher. You get winded, it seems like the 40-second clock turns into a 20-second clock. But I'll do it for as long as I can.

"One of the things I think I do well, is when I am moving, I see the whole field.

"In the past I've tried to do everything. That probably won't change. I want to win so badly."

(on the win) "You hope you build on this and carry it over into the next week."

(on the young players on the offensive line) "Those guys are going to make mistakes and they're playing against good players."

WIDE RECEIVER ANTONIO FREEMAN:

(on the win) "As an overall team, we just wanted to win. Ironically the offense came around and we scored some points.

"We got off to a 7-0 lead which is something we haven't done probably since the Arizona game."

(on his touchdown) "I was able to find a crease in their defense. Brett stepped up, improvised and hit me on the run. I was able to catch it and stay in stride."

(on quarterback Brett Favre) "Today our line gave him time to throw the ball and find receivers down the field. I was just glad to see him come out and really have an excellent game."

(on his season) "At times this year it's been frustrating. When you don't put up the stats, regardless of the situation, people are going to write bad things about you.

"I've always said, if I can get the ball in my hands five or six times a game, I can do something productive for our offense and put us in a situation where we can win games."

RUNNING BACK AHMAN GREEN:

(on his second touchdown) "It was basically just smash-mouth football, trying to go over them. Will (Henderson) hit his block, and I tried to go over the top, and they had the leverage on me. I came down still on my feet. I don't really like to jump, but once I got back on my feet, I told myself I was going to put it into the end zone. If I have to take everybody with me, they're going into the end zone. I gave the second effort. The O-line blocked everybody, so I was one-on-one with a safety and I think a linebacker, too."

(on combining with Dorsey Levens in the running game) "That's basically how the running game is developing. That's how it's designed to be."

OFFENSIVE TACKLE MARK TAUSCHER:

(on the game) "You always want to have a solid performance. I really think that maybe our confidence was down a little bit after last week's game. We were kind of a whipping child last week. Coming out and having a good showing today, and the offense doing well - especially going into the bye week - if we had struggled again today the pressure would have built up."

(on the offense) "It's a step up from what we've done, and it was real encouraging."

(on fellow rookie Chad Clifton) "Chad's a good player. He's a great athlete, and he studied extra hard this week just like everybody else did to prepare himself to play. I think that the more you prepare, the better off you're going to be."

OFFENSIVE TACKLE CHAD CLIFTON:

(on his performance) "I was, overall, happy with my performance today."

"Overall, it went pretty well. I had a few missed plays, but overall, alright."

(on getting advice from Mark Tauscher) "He told me that there's nothing to be nervous about. You may be a little jittery the first play, but after that, it's all over."

DEFENSIVE END JOHN THIERRY:

(on the game) "That was a big win for us. This team needed it. The last two games we lost were very, very disappointing to all of us. It was kind of in the back of everybody's mind, and to come out and win wipes those little things out, and you can refocus yourself. Plus we're going into the bye week, so you can focus now on whatever you need to do."

(on next week's bye weekend) "We have to get better over the next two weeks - do whatever it takes to get better. If it means flying somewhere for a couple days, do it. If it means staying around and doing extra stuff around here, do it. I'll tell you one thing, it couldn't come at a better time."

"It's going to be fun coming back here now."

CORNERBACK TOD McBRIDE:

(on the game) "It always feels good to win, especially at home. The way the game came down at the end, that was a lot of fun."

"We knew (Garcia) was a good quarterback. Defensively, it was kind of ugly. But the offense stepped up their game and came through for us."

(on not having to come from behind) "It's a different game, because it's easier on your mind. You're winning, and when you're winning, good things happen."

DEFENSIVE END KABEER GBAJA-BIAMILA:

(on his shared first-quarter sack to take the 49ers out of field goal range) "I just went around the guy. Thierry had his man, and we just jumped him. God put me in the right place at the right time, and we got him. It was a big play for us."

KICKER RYAN LONGWELL:

(on his game-winning field goal) "It was a big win for the team, and we'd been hitting the ball pretty well. So there was no reason to make it a bigger deal than it was. Just go out, swing away and put it through."

(on preparing to kick the field goal) "I make it exactly like any other field goal. I go out, hit my three balls into the net to warm up and then go approach it like it was any other kick. I know it works for me in the first quarter, and so there's no reason it wouldn't work in the fourth quarter."
