Green Bay vs. Minnesota - Post-game Quotes - Green Bay
Regular Season - Packers Win 26-20
HEAD COACH MIKE SHERMAN:
(on the game) "I wouldn't call it a miracle. I'd call it a happy moment. Fortunately right at the end of the game, we made a play and it was a very special play. It was a great win."
(on the decision to not try a 48-yard field goal in fourth quarter) "We thought the 25-yard line was his max and played the percentages. He thought that was his max, the special teams coach felt that was his max, so we elected to not take that chance."
(on the defense) "We have good character on this football team. And our guys keep fighting. We gave up some yardage but we were able to keep one of the top touchdown threats out of the end zone in Randy Moss. I thought our defense did well. We bent a lot, but didn't really break."
(on winning the football game) "I'm pretty happy to win this football game for myself, the staff and the team who works so very hard. We did have some opportunities earlier in the game that we didn't take advantage of. I think the key thing is we made a play at the end to win football game, and that is something we haven't done in previous weeks."
(on Antonio Freeman's game-winning TD catch) "I think it showed great concentration and effort by Antonio Freeman. A lot of guys may have given up on it and he hung with it and made a helluva play."
(on running back Ahman Green) "Ahman Green always runs hard. I thought he gave us juice when we needed it. He gave us plays when we needed them."
(on the taunting penalty) "That was a very, very bad mistake on our part. We haven't had that type of penalty this year that I can remember. That was a huge play in the game."
(on the weather conditions) "It was very windy down there. The wind had a definite effect on the football -- although I thought our quarterback was phenomenally accurate. We didn't catch all the balls he threw to us, but I thought he had a tremendous football game. He made some unbelievable plays, and if we would have caught the ball he would have made even more."
SAFETY DARREN SHARPER:
(on the game) "Oh my goodness, I'll tell you what - in the last four years
since I've been here, I've seen a lot of endings, but nothing can really
measure up to that. It's tremendous. That just shows the character of this
team. We always come out fighting no matter what the score is, no matter
what kind of situation we're in. We have a lot of character on this team,
and it's going to carry us for the rest of the season."
(on his two interceptions) "Well, I'm a little disappointed because I had
an opportunity to have more than that. A couple times, my ankle gave way on
me a little bit. It was a little weak coming into the game. I couldn't
plant and go up like I wanted to. But we knew coming into the game they
were going to try and throw it deep to Moss. That's one of the things they
always do. We came with a game plan that had me on his side the whole game.
I was going to be on top of him the whole game. He made some plays, and I
made some plays, but we knew we were going to get some opportunities.
RUNNING BACK AHMAN GREEN:
(on the game) "It was a fight, it was a fight to the bitter end. They were
hitting, just like I expected. The d-line and defensive backs were clogging
that hole. On some plays I had a clear shot, and on some plays, I had to
put my head down and take it.
(on his touchdown reception from an underhanded Favre pass) "That was a
first. Probably back in the sandlot days, when I was a kid playing in the
front yard, but not in a game like this. He made a great throw, and I had
to make the catch."
(on Antonio Freeman's touchdown) "That was one of the greatest catches I've
seen so far playing in the NFL."
KICK RETURNER ALLEN ROSSUM:
(on his 90-yard return) "It's a long season. If you just have patience in
this game. These guys have been working hard at the same return for 10
weeks, and then you finally have a chance to get one. And once you get one,
it kind of snowballs."
WIDE RECEIVER ANTONIO FREEMAN:
"The type of season we're having, we needed a break. Tonight we got a
break. The ball was changing trajectory all night. One minute it would be
high, one minute it would be low. I think it affected our receivers for
much of the night, but we got a break at the end, and it affected their
defensive back, and we got a break. A well-needed break."
"There's no way we could have walked off that field 3-6. When they didn't
get that field goal off, I just told Brett on the sideline, 'It's a great
time for the rain to start pouring.' We got two breaks tonight. Tonight
was our night after being on the other side for so long."
"I'm just glad that our coaching staff and Brett Favre stayed with me. They
made an attempt to get me involved early so it wouldn't be a second-half
deal where, 'we gotta get Free the ball, we gotta get Free the ball.' They
got it to me early, they got me involved, and the biggest play of the night
happened to come at the end."
"Who said football was all skill. Sometimes you need a little luck, and
tonight we got our lucky bounce."
(on the final play) "Brett threw the ball, the wind took it and moved it
around a little bit, and it hit his right hand, hit his shoulder pad and
rolled off, and as I was falling back, I got an early Christmas gift I
guess, and it fell in my hand. It's a good thing I stayed with the play. I
realized nobody had touched me, and I just got up and took it on home."
(on what the win does personally) "I've never been carried off the field
before, but those guys know I've been through some tough times, and I needed
a break. I got it tonight."
QUARTERBACK BRETT FAVRE
"It rates up there towards the top, I will admit that. I don't know if I've
ever been a part of anything like that. It seems like that's every week."
(on the final play) "It was designed to go to Free on a slant route. We
ran it earlier on the first play of a previous drive for about 12 yards.
Had it not been for a wet ball, we probably would have continued to run a
slant, but we backed off, they gave us a new ball. Free was playing with a
lot of confidence, and he just got my attention real discreetly and gave me
a slant and go signal. I think he had a feeling that Chris (Dishman) was
going to jump the slant, and I went with it."
"If your star player wants the ball, give it to him. He made a play. I
don't even know if you can call it a play. That was remarkable,
unbelievable."
