Green Bay vs. Detroit - Postgame Quotes - Green Bay

Regular Season - Packers Win 26-13

HEAD COACH Mike Sherman:
(on the game) "Well, we won a football game late in the season against a good football team that's headed to the playoffs. I think we did okay. I'll take this one.

"I think it's a good solid win to be able to do something when the best player on your team doesn't have his best day. The guys kept battling back.

"You know, one thing I challenged the guys all week long, in studying this team, I looked at teh Detroit losses and it seemed that if you could win the turnover margin, which we did today, you could have a shot because they're a tremendous team at creating turnovers. And our defense and our special teams created turnovers for our season high.

"It;s the first time we've been at this stage since the end of Spetember. To be 7-7 right now, I think the team is responding. They really enjoyed this win. As tough as it was, I think we really gained some momentum on this win."

(on the team) "I'm thrilled with our team. I'm thrilled with the character on this team and how we've battled.

"The defense line all year has had setback after setback and they keep working. You just put another guy in there and they rise to the occasion. I'm very proud of these guys."

(on the weather) "I do think there's a mystique about Lambeau Field in the cold weather and when it starts to snow. I do think there's a mystique there, and I think other people have bought into that when they come in here."

QUARTERBACK BRETT FAVRE:
(on the game) "I have to be honest, yeah it was tough. It wasn't the coldest I've played in, but it was difficult to throw. I shouldn't say difficult to throw, but difficult to be accurate.

"I think after the game, Mike said it best. This team has faced all kinds of adversity, with injuries, and games that have been up and down. But I think that's a prime example of the kind of team we have.

"In these types of conditions, we typically run the ball better. We earned everything we got today.

"In a game like this, every point in valuable. You never know how many opportunities you are going to get.

"I know we're good in these conditions. Or better than the next team. It's an advantage for us. Like I said, for three-and-a-half hours, you just have to tough it out.

"Nobody ever gave up. I knew I was struggling with my throws, but you just keep shooting. If you know you can do it, then you just do it."

(on his interception) "That was an accurate throw - the guy just made a great play. Maybe I shouldn't have made the throw, but I didn't think he could pick it in these conditions."

(on Ahman Green's rushing touchdown at the end) "That was all Ahman and the offensive line. They wanted it."

(on the team) "I just know we've earned everything we've gotten this year. I know you can look at it and say it isn't very much, but this team could have given up a long time ago."

RUNNING BACK AHMAN GREEN:
(on his performance) "I know if I can get a certain amount of carries, a certain amount of yards, receptions and touchdowns, that's going to be a factor in this game.

"With this offense, basically you're going to have a running game no matter who is back there. If you don't have a running game, you don't have a passing game in the West Coast offense."

(on a possible 1,000-yard season) "It would be a great accomplishment for myself, for my O-line and my teammates. In the beginning nobody expected - myself, I didn't expect - to be in a position where I am now. Right now I'm proud with the way it's come out. With the hard work I've put in, my O-line and Brett telling me little things to keep my confidence going."

(on his receiving touchdown) "You know it's something we practice every week, and we ran it agianst Minnesota and scored on it. It was the same incidence. My main goal was to run straight to the pylon. He (Brett) got the ball to me and all I had to do was reach the pylon and it was a touchdown."

OFFENSIVE TACKLE MARK TAUSCHER:
(on the offensive line's performance) "I'll tell you what, it was ugly. We had too many opportunities that we didn't take advantage of early. We could have really had a big game, but we just seem to respond when we really need to, and today we did that. We got ourselves 100 yards rushing, and we did the job up front."

KICKER RYAN LONGWELL:
(on the weather conditions) "They were tough. Any time you have the new balls with the temperature that low it's tough, and then you add in the field, it's just that time of year. It's tough. You have to get good chances. Four of the five of them were decent chances, and we made them."

(on his performance) "Our special teams were really playing well, we just weren't getting in the end zone. So we just go out and kick them, and that 45-yarder in the fourth quarter was a really good kick. That was a big kick in the game, so it was a good day."

(on his Pro Bowl chances) "I hope so. My stats are pretty good, but I know that it's up to other people. But I think it's good enough."

FULLBACK WILLIAM HENDERSON:
(on causing a special teams fumble) "It was a clean shot. I had a great angle on him, and my guys did their jobs in order to create that kind of angle for me, so I have to give credit to everybody."

(on the many facets of his game) "I can play it all. It doesn't matter. The guys were joking around with me at halftime that I'm like the third-string linebacker, so that's what I'm going to do."

(on the running of Ahman Green) "Great job. First of all, give credit to our offensive line any time we have a good running game and a good passing game, putting yards on the board. They start it; they're our first line of defense. Ahman is steadily getting better. He read the blocks well - he read all of the blocks well, made a great cut-back, and when we needed him to make the burst, he made the burst and got a touchdown. It was a great play overall, because everybody did their jobs.

"That's what he came here to be. He's one of those guys that said, 'Just give me the ball whenever you want me to have it, and I'll make the play if I get a chance to.' And that's what he's doing. Like I said, I give credit to everybody for that. Start with the offensive line, then go to Brett (Favre) and go to myself and Ahman. Everybody's doing their job. The receivers are out there blocking extra to make sure we don't get any penetration from the outside."

DEFENSIVE TACKLE RUSSELL MARYLAND:
(on the team's fighting attitude) "We have some character guys on this squad. Where some teams may fold, we made it a point that we were going to have great practices the next couple weeks, and not only were we going to have great practices, we were going to have great focus going into the game and not come out flat like we did against Carolina. So we made that resolve and started last week. I think the momentum is going in our favor right now, and it's going to bode well for us going into next week's game. This was a good win, and it's good for us going into an opponent like the Vikings next week."

(on several players making plays on defense) "We came out earlier in the year and set the tone for ourselves by playing well early in the year. Then we were kind of inconsistent toward the mid-part of the year, but now we really made it a point to practice hard during the week and let it carry over into the game. This was a great example of our defensive effort, and what we're going to try to do is end up December in the same way and keep getting stronger and stronger every week."

LINEBACKER BERNARDO HARRIS:
(on whether every game feels like the playoffs) "I think we got caught up with that a couple weeks ago, and then we talked about it a lot. I don't know if it affected us directly or anything, but lately we've just been focusing on playing football, playing together as a team, doing what it takes to win, playing with intensity, playing with pride and letting that carry on in. We can't control the other circumstances. We just have to keep playing and keep winning."

(on the defense's five turnovers) "That was an emphasis. We knew that Detroit was the leader in the league in forcing turnovers, and they make plays on the ball and get turnovers. They execute on third down really well, and they run the ball well, and so we knew going into the game that we had to control those areas of the game. Our special teams stepped up and played big from the opening kickoff, containing Desmond (Howard). You have to give them a lot of credit."

CORNERBACK TOD McBRIDE:
(on his end-zone interception) "The interception was really just the right place at the right time, and I was fortunate enough to catch the ball and get a turnover for the defense."

(on responding after being beaten on an earlier play) "You've got to keep fighting. If you stop fighting, that's when it's all going to crash down on you. You just have to persevere through the good times and bad times, and as a defense, we really clicked out there today and had a lot of fun."

KICK RETURNER ALLEN ROSSUM:
(on the cold weather) "We knew it was going to be cold. The whole point in a cold game like this is to get up early and get as many points as you can early, because toward the end of the game, you're probably freezing to death. But your adrenaline is pumping so hard...We were able to chalk up some yards for our offense to generate some points, and our defense came right back out and shut them out again. It's kind of like a snowball. It kept moving and kept moving. We were able to get a win today, and that's the most important thing."

(on playing with his blockers) "You know, when I first got here, we were kind of going on a whim. I didn't know them and they didn't know me. It was just like, run left, run right. We may have known all of the schemes, but it was hard for me when I had a chance to see it (in live action). But as a team, we're continuing to work together."
