Green Bay Packers vs. Cleveland Browns - 12/23/01

Postgame Quotes - Cleveland

HEAD COACH BUTCH DAVIS:
"It's extraordinarily difficult to win a football game when you turn the ball over.

"When we left the locker room, we had an idea we could win this game.

"This was our most productive offensive effort in the past six or seven weeks.

"We took some steps in this game that will continue into next season. We still have to develop more consistency.

"Jamel White had a good game. He is a good mudder - he has quick steps. The offensive line did a good job, particularly in the first half."

(on Couch's interceptions) "He had two tipped balls. Those things happen."

(on Couch's play) "You try to make the plays, you have to stay aggressive. Instead of the interceptions, we need some completions.

"To win today, we would have had to play better defensively. The weather made it frustrating, and that affected our receivers who couldn't make the clean breaks.

"You hate to get off to a slow start - that adds fuel to the fire of the other team you're playing."

(on Brett Favre) "He's always good."

WIDE RECEIVER KEVIN JOHNSON:
"The bottom line is you have to protect the football.

"We did some good things, but we did not do them good enough. We have to keep working on it."

LINEBACKER WALI RAINER:
"On their first drive, we couldn't stop 'em. We didn't play up to our best."

QUARTERBACK TIM COUCH:
"We tried to move the ball - we wanted to overcome our mistakes. I had a couple of bad passes. I'm trying to score every time we move the ball."

"The weather was not a factor even though this was the first time I played in snow.

"They got the lead and we had to come back. We took some shots. They made the plays, we didn't. That's frustrating.

"We thought we were going to win, but we couldn't with the turnovers.

"The pass protection was the best I have had all year.

"The interceptions bother me, but I am not going to change. We have to be aggressive.

"Take away the turnovers and the outcome would have been different."

LEFT TACKLE ROSS VERBa:
"I had a lot of fun today, but would have liked the W. We prepared hard.

"It is different being on the other side of the ball.

"The Packers are a first-class organization. I wish them well.

"It is tough when you are behind. Our offensive line did well today. But give Green Bay credit, they played hard."
