Packers Player Of The Game
He never got a chance to return a punt, but in three kickoff returns, former Arena Football League standout Antonio Chatman showed the kind of elusiveness that all NFL teams covet. The stats (3 returns, 85 yards, 28.3 avg.) don't tell the story. Chatman was nifty in his returns, making players miss, earning extra yards. Saturday night he did a lot to suggest that he's the answer the Packers are looking for in their quest for a return man. Also with a strong performance Saturday night was Aaron Kampman, who had 2 sacks along with 5 tackles and a forced fumble.
Falcons Player Of The Game
Michael Vick looked in midseason form in his 2003 preseason debut, completing 6-of-7 passes for 110 yards and 1 touchdown.
Stat Of The Game
The Packers were penalized 10 times Saturday night. In the first quarter, the first-team offense and defense combined to draw five flags.
Play Of The Game
With the Packers leading 27-21, the Falcons were poised to move ahead with first-and-goal at the 1-yard line. Aaron Kampman started things off by stopping Fred Talley for no gain on first down. On third down Kampman made an even bigger play, again stopping Talley at the line of scrimmage, but also forcing a fumble, which Jacoby Shepherd recovered to end the scoring threat. The play was huge not because it preserved a meaningless preseason win, but because it's that kind of play that will help win games in the regular season, when it counts.
THEY SAID IT
Marques Anderson -
On if defense played below expectations: "Definitely. I think our discipline level. I don't think physically they beat us. I think jumping offsides, giving them yardage that they didn't really earn, kind of played against us. This is something we have to evaluate on the film, go back look at it and make those corrections for Cleveland."
On if defense was beat by Michael Vick or themselves: "I think it was 90-percent us. We just didn't execute the way we should. Fortunately it's a preseason game, but of course these things matter."
Nick Barnett -
On if game is coming easier: "It's getting easier. I'm getting experience. I've still got a lot to learn. I've still got mental errors coming in. I'm not fully ironed out, but with time I'll get everything down."
Antuan Edwards -
On position battle with Marques Anderson: "With me it's just taking it one day at a time. It's going to be obviously tough to win the job, with Marques playing a lot last year. My thing is just to keep working. I think if I stay consistent and just keep playing everything will work out. That's the attitude I'm approaching with this whole thing."
Carl Ford -
On third-down catch: "That was fun. It was fun being out there and being in position to make a play for the team on third down. I'm glad he came to me."
Ahman Green -
On if worried about offense's struggles: "No, nothing to worry about. It's just something we have to work on. We've just got to continue to improve. It's a little disappointing, but nothing to worry about. We just know it's still early for a lot of younger guys around here, but we've still got to work hard and crank it up every time we get out there on the game field."
Craig Nall -
On performance: "It feels good to get out there and get into a rhythm and complete some passes. I wasn't thrust into a two-minute situation right off the bat. But we had a couple good drives while I was in there. Guys ran the ball hard and the offensive line, I thought, played extremely well while I was in there."
On Carl Ford: "He made some big catches. Some huge catches. He had one that was off his fingertips. I wish he could have brought that one in, but he said he lost the ball. Whenever he turned around he didn't see it. He made some big plays. I was proud of him tonight."
On Atlanta game vs. Kansas City game: "I executed a lot better, that's for sure. Only missed one read and I paid for it, took a hit. But that's what happens when you don't pay attention. But overall the guys out there helped me. They gave me plenty of time to find some receivers downfield."
Marco Rivera -
On offense's struggles: "If there's a problem, we have enough time to fix it. We'll be fine. We've just got to put it all together and we've got to start playing more aggressive and just get after it and just leave it all on the field."
On offense: "If we execute our offense and keep penalties and mental mistakes to a minimum, we're unstoppable."
Akili Smith -
On performance: "It was all right. I made about four bad decisions out there today. But it was my first time out there, so I'm looking forward to next week. We'll see what happens."
On comfort with offense: "I've been in the offense for two months, so it's pretty tough. But I can't give any excuses. I've got three more chances. I've got to speed my studying up and get ready for Cleveland."
Wesley Walls -
On his comfort in offense: "Everybody coaches things different. I'm trying to figure it out to do it exactly the way they want it done so I can contribute and help this team. It's not going to take long though. It's coming back. I got in there today. It was good to get some action, and next week maybe get some passes and go from there."
