Tonight's paid attendance was 70,769, the largest regular season crowd in Houston Texans history.
PACKERS-TEXANS POST-GAME QUOTES
Head Coach Mike Sherman
(on having Brett Favre with two minutes left in the game) "He gives you confidence that he is going to do something special in those situations and I think they have one of those type of guys right here in Houston, but he's just a little bit younger. Brett is special and to be able to rely on his leadership and abilities at those times gives us an opportunity to win a game like this in the fourth quarter with the last drive."
(on Ahman Green) "He hurt his ribs, x-rays were negative and we will have to take it day by day."
(on winning at the last minute) "Well, it was loud, and I told the guys every single day that we were going to get the best the Texans had to offer. They really gave us everything we could handle. I take my hat off to Dom Capers and his staff. They did an outstanding job of preparation. They gave us different looks and things that caused us ineffectiveness in different parts of the ball game. We were fortunate enough to come up with the plays at the end to win the football game. I'm proud of them throughout the course of the ball game. Our defense came out in the second half, and to shut out an explosive offense like this speaks volumes of the work they've done. I thought the defense gave us a chance offensively to find our way."
(on defense changing at the half) "We didn't change anything specific, just played things a little bit differently than we did in the first half. The pressure was a difference for us."
(on penalties) "We didn't play our best offensively, that's for sure, and we had to overcome some self inflicted adversities. We would have a nice run then a holding penalty or a nice catch and we were pushing off. There was constant adversity in the game, but you can't worry about that, just the next play."
QB Brett Favre
(On the running game) "We almost ran out of running backs. Tony Fisher did everything. He hurt his shoulder and I told him we needed him out there. He really responded. William Henderson played well also."
(On being in a tie game inside two minutes) "Well, its fun when you win. I said it last week and again this week, I'd rather be up. I can only imagine what my family was going through watching the game. I'm sure they were pretty tight, but they weren't by themselves (feeling that way). In situations like this you find out what you are made of. I knew what we were made of, I was just waiting for it to come out. It's always great when you win a game like this. I am exhausted right now."
(On the Texans' performance) "I can't speak about the offense, but the defense played extremely well. They have played good all year and today was no exception. I expect our offense to score more points, but I give them a lot of credit. There is no easy game in this league, especially playing a team with a lot of talent on national television. Fortunately we made one more play than they did."
(On the first half) "We moved the ball. We killed ourselves with penalties. We didn't make the most of our opportunities. Playing on the road in a hostile environment, we hurt ourselves with penalties after good plays. That makes it more difficult. We have guys with good character. We have a good mix of young guys and veterans. There was a lack of execution, but I give them a lot of credit. There were plays to be made, we just have to make them."
(On receivers) "We have a lot of talent across the board. Those guys make plays week-in and week-out. I told Javon Walker before the game, 'The sky's the limit if your confidence continues to grow the way it is now. But always remember in the back of your mind, you can get better. Don't ever be satisfied with any statistic. Always know there is room for improvement.' I don't want to forget Donald Driver, who steps up over and over again. They all made plays."
WR Donald Driver
(On Driver's TD reception) "I went to coach and told him they were biting on the slants all night long. I hit them with the slant and go, and Brett (Favre) made a great throw in the back of the end zone."
(On fourth quarter two-minute drive) "Brett (Favre) is probably the best quarterback in the game during the two-minute drives. He told us that we had to make a play and that's what we did. Ryan Longwell made a great kick to win the game for us."
(On getting a chance to play in his hometown) "It was very special to me. My mom and grandmother were here to watch me play and that's something I have always wanted. I showed them what they all came to see, a great show."
LB Na'il Diggs
(On the win tonight) "It was a joint effort. We gave our offense a chance to get the ball back and they took advantage of it by giving us the win. Our defense should have forced more turnovers during the game."
(On the Packer comeback effort) "Our team showed a lot of character tonight with this win. Coming back during the second half and sticking together proved that we can overcome adversity, which will help us in the long run."
Kicker Ryan Longwell
(On the game winning kick) "I've got the best snapper in the league and the best holder in the league. It makes my job a little easier"
(On staying in the game) "We just kept fighting and got in range for a couple of field goals then tied it up."
(On being in a game winning situation) "I don't often get a chance to do that. It's probably good because my mother wouldn't survive the season. I don't often miss early so I'm not out there late. Today was my chance and it was redemption after my early miss."
(On Reliant and the Texans' Fans) "They were great fans. This place is huge. It is loud. It's a great place to play. It's a great place to win."
Cornerback Al Harris
(On the Packers' defensive performance) "I think we did a really good job of corralling them and taking away what they do well."
(On covering Texan's receiver Andre Johnson) "I worked on playing him tight. I think he caught one real nice pass on me. It was a challenge and he did a good job."
Safety Darren Sharper
(On the win) "A win like this always feels good. We didn't do everything we wanted, but pulled it together in the end. That's when it matters."
(On his brother Texans Jamie Sharper) "We'll be talking. You know we will be talking. Well, I know I'll be talking."
RB Tony Fisher
(on preparing for the game) "It was just a situation where the team needed me to play, so I was ready. I'm always prepared for everything, mentally. I know I'm not a starter, but I'm still a running on the team, so I have to know everything."
(on team performance) "This is a team of great character. We struggled a little bit, but in the end, we did what we had to do to win the game."
(on running back injuries) "It's just the nature of the game."
(on come from behind victory) "It just made everybody that much stronger. It was one of those games where everybody had to step up. Everybody was getting nicked up, but that is the nature of the game. It's a long season. Anytime somebody gets hurt, somebody else has to step up."
T Mark Tauscher
(On second half adjustments) "We moved the ball in the first half. We missed the field goal. Really it came down to finishing drives. We only got into the end zone once, but we did what we had to, to get it done. This was one of those games where you can learn a lot. In order to have a good season you need to win games like this."
(On the Packers offensive performance) "When something is successful, you stick with it. We threw the ball all over the place, and it was working. Obviously we would have liked to have Ahman Green in there, but Tony Fisher stepped up and played really well today."
Texans Head Coach Dom Capers
(On game performance) "Let me first give my hats off to the Green Bay Packers. They played an excellent game. Over the last four weeks they've played extremely well on both sides of the ball. It's a credit to them to pick themselves up from 1-4 and to come back and win five games in a row. When you're playing a team like Green Bay you're going to get only so many opportunities. We had a number of opportunities in the second half that we weren't able to convert, and that's what the game came down to. I thought our guys came out and fought all the way to the end. We've got a bunch of fighters on this team. In order to beat a team like Green Bay, you have to out execute and we weren't able to do that tonight. When you fight hard and come up short, it leaves a bunch of disappointed guys in the locker room. It's always disappointing when a team kicks a field goal in the last play of the game to beat you. There's only one thing you can do; we've got to go back to work and be determined to pick ourselves up. We have Tennessee here next Sunday. We've got to get ready to come back and find a way to play well enough to win next week."
(On the Texans' defensive performance) "I felt our defense played an excellent game. (Brett) Favre is a guy that you never have enough points when you play against him. You just can't keep giving him opportunities because he's going to make some of those plays. He's one of the greatest that's ever played the position. You have to give him credit."
(On the Texans' run game vs. Packers' run game) "I think our front guys played well in terms of their running game. We felt that's where everything started for them (Green Bay) because they did a great job of play action pass. They made an awful lot of big plays in their running game. As far as our run game against them we had a hard time getting things going."
Texans WR Andre Johnson
On the difference in the game in the second half) "(The Packers) came out and made more plays than we did in the first half. They were able to make more plays and put more points on the board."
(On the Packers' defense and their defensive backs talking to him during the game) "We knew coming into the game that they were a physical defense and that we were going to have to work and earn every play. They made us work for everything and (the defensive backs) let me know that they were going to be after me the whole game."
(On what the Texans can take away from this game) "We came out and played well, but there are still some things we didn't do well. We have to put together two halves of football."
Texans QB David Carr
(On going toe-to-toe with the Packers) "Green Bay is a good football team. We played well enough to win in the first half. In the second half we got into positions where they were stopping us on first and second down. We ended up third-and-long the entire game. They were stopping our run with their front four and their front seven. It's an uphill battle when you get into that situation."
(On the Texans' offensive execution in the second half) "There were a lot of third-and-longs. They weren't giving us anything on first and second down. Third-and-longs were tough. They took advantage of their opportunities. It was a tough defensive battle. Both defenses played really well. We should have played well enough to win in the second half, but we didn't."
(On the team bouncing back after two previous poor performances) "We played on of the best football teams in the NFL, a solid football team with a great quarterback. It was fun to play against him (Brett Favre). He made some plays there at the end. Those guys know how to win and we have to get there."
(On his conversation with Favre after the game) "It was mutual respect. I told him that I thought he was a great player and to keep it up. He said the same thing to me."
Texan's DT Seth Payne
(On Brett Favre) "It's tough getting him down, but we didn't get in his face enough. They moved the ball well, they did what they do. They executed their offense better than they did in the first half and we didn't do anything to stop them."
(On 2nd half) "They just beat us. They played better than us in the second half, it's as simple as that. I don't know if they did anything differently scheme wise. We didn't get enough of a rush and we didn't get the ball away from their receivers."
Texan's LB Jason Babin
(On Brett Favre) "He's a good quarterback and we knew that coming in. He's got a good pocket sense and he took the pressure well."
(On the Favre's fourth quarter performance) "He got hot. He didn't seem like he had anything clicking before that, but whatever they did in the fourth quarter it seemed to come together."
Texan's FS Marcus Coleman
(On the second half) "They made the plays when they had to. We had the chances to make the stop and we just didn't do it. That was really the main thing. It wasn't anything that we didn't know or expect, but we just didn't make the plays when we had to."
Texans CB Dunta Robinson
(On intercepting Brett Favre) "That's something you dream about as a child, getting an interception against any great quarterback. But, like I said, we didn't win the game, so really that interception means nothing."
(On giving Brett Favre too many opportunities) "Definitely. You can't give a great quarterback like that anything. That's captain comeback the second with John Elway. You have to get off the field on third down and we just didn't do that."
(on what Coach Capers said after the game) "He said that we have a group of fighters. We played hard until all the time ran off the clock. That's what you have to do in this league. There's going to be games like this and we just have to fight next week. We're going to have to fight and play hard these last couple of games."
Texans OT Todd Wade
(Game summary) "We just have to come in tomorrow and look at the film and get better from there. I'm just as surprised as the rest of the group. It was embarrassing. We just can't do that (fail to move the ball) when our defense is out there playing hard like that."
(On the offensive output) "When you can't move the ball like that or run the ball effectively, it's tough. I really have no answers for it."
(On if the inability to run the ball was the key) "I think so. We do some different types of stuff with reverses and things, and we thought that would open up the running game better for us down the stretch. When we tried to run the ball in the second half, I don't know what happened. It's embarrassing and we have to pick it up."
