Packers-Falcons Week 5 Dope Sheet

Two years after he co-founded the Packers with Curly Lambeau, George Calhoun began writing a piece called The Dope Sheet, which served as the official press release and game program from 1921-24.

Honoring Calhoun, the first publicity director, the Packers are running this weekly feature as their release, which is being made available to fans exclusively on Packers.com.

A complete edition of the Dope Sheet will be available each week during the season in PDF format, located in the Packers.com Game Centers.

Packers Accepting Nominations For Community Quarterback Award

The Green Bay Packers currently are accepting nominations for the Community Quarterback Award.

Funded by the Green Bay Packers and NFL Charities, the Community Quarterback Award recognizes outstanding volunteers within the state of Wisconsin. Non-profit (501(c)(3) or 509) organizations are invited to nominate outstanding volunteers who demonstrate leadership, dedication and a commitment to bettering their communities through volunteerism.

The Community Quarterback Award is for volunteers who are not compensated for their services. Ten nominees will be selected and each will receive a $2,000 grant in the name of the non-profit organization from the Green Bay Packers.

The deadline for nomination submission is Oct. 31, 2008.

Jennings Is Hall Of Fame's Featured Player Of The Week For Week 4

For his performance vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, wide receiver Greg Jennings was chosen as the Packers 'Hall of Fame Featured Player of the Week.' The exhibit contains memorabilia from the game against the Buccaneers, including a game ball autographed by Jennings.

Jennings posted six receptions for 109 yards and two touchdowns, his first scores of the season. He leads the NFL with 482 receiving yards through four games.

The Hall of Fame's weekly exhibit, 'The Hall of Fame Featured Player of the Week,' contains memorabilia from each week's game, including a game ball autographed by a featured player of the week.

Each Monday (or in the case of a Monday night game, Tuesday), new items from the previous day's game will be placed in the display to be viewed by visitors to the Hall. Included among the items will be the autographed game ball, which at the end of the week will be awarded randomly to a Hall of Fame visitor who signed up for the free drawing.

Well, they're going to obviously rehab him today and tomorrow and we'll probably have a better idea Wednesday. Speaking with Aaron this morning, he has every intention on playing, but I think Wednesday's practice will be a pretty good indicator for us. PWA Members Hawk And Cole To Bag Groceries Sept. 29 At De Pere Festival Foods To Promote Cause

The Packers Women's Association is teaming up with Festival Foods for the 22nd Annual Food Drive for Paul's Pantry prior to the Packers-Falcons game, Oct. 5, at Lambeau Field. This year's effort is headed by co-chairwomen Dr. Kaye Cole and Laura Hawk.

The Green Bay Packers again this October will host the popular Halloween-themed events, Spooktacular Fun and the Haunted Concourse.

Spooktacular Fun is set for Saturday, Oct. 11, in the Lambeau Field Atrium. Accessed through the Miller Brewing Company Gate, it will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Haunted Concourse this year is open for two days of thrills and is accessed through the Oneida Nation Gate. The annual search is on for a new Packers FAN Hall of Fame honoree.

The first professional football team to have its own hall of fame, the Green Bay Packers enhanced that distinction in 1998 by establishing a Packers FAN Hall of Fame. It was founded, in conjunction with the Packers Hall of Fame, for the purpose of annually honoring a devout and longtime Packers fan.

As has been the case each of the past 10 years, nominees are being sought for recognition by a selection committee. The late Mel Knoke of Appleton was chosen as the inaugural enshrinee in the FAN Hall of Fame. The Green Bay Packers will partner with seven Wisconsin high schools to implement the NFL ATLAS & ATHENA Schools Program, a nationally-acclaimed initiative designed to promote healthy living and reduce the use of steroids and other drugs among high school athletes.

Jason Piittmann, of Kewaskum High School, has been named Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week, the organization announced Thursday.

"On behalf of our football program, I'd like to thank the Green Bay Packers for this great honor," Piittmann said. "It is a credit to our coaching staff, a great group of men that I work with, and the young men in our program over the last nine or ten years."

As far as Al Harris, number one, it's a serious injury. I think that's obvious to everybody, and really as we move forward, it's a different type of injury. We will take a cautious approach. Everything we'll do is in his best interests. We're talking about an internal injury. It's not a hamstring or something that's different based on the individual. He will be out this weekend against Tampa. His schedule for the week, he really can't do anything for seven days, and as of today, we're still gathering information on the second and third opinion to try to create a timeline of what's appropriate as far as the proper time frame. We have a couple different opinions so far. We'll get all the information and then we'll move on from there.

Well, statistically they put up big numbers. Any time someone runs for over 200 yards, that's significant. But how they did it is the thing that we're more interested in. Navy Capt. Michael Petzold, a Seymour, Wis., resident, and his family were recognized by the Packers and Festival Foods at Sunday's game vs. the Dallas Cowboys for 'Operation Fan Mail.'

Capt. Petzold received his commission in the Navy through the Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) program at Marquette University in May 1983. His active duty assignments include his first sea-duty onboard USS CAMDEN (AOE 2), where he served as damage control assistant. From November 2001 until June 2002, he was mobilized to CINCPACFLT, where he worked in future operations and for PACOM as J3 information manager. From May 2005 to July 2006, Petzold served as officer-in-charge of the COMUSNAVCENT N11 Internal Augmentation Cell in the USCENTCOM Theater and is currently serving in Millington, Tenn., in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

Quarterback AARON RODGERS of the Green Bay Packers and running back DARREN MC FADDEN of the Oakland Raiders are the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week for games played on September 14 - 15, the NFL announced Friday.

Rodgers completed 24 of 38 passes for 328 yards and three touchdowns in the Packers' 48 - 25 win over the Detroit Lions. Rodgers led an offense that had possession of the ball for more than 35 minutes and gained a total 447 yards.

Dan Coughlin, of La Crosse Aquinas High School, has been named Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week, the organization announced Thursday.

Mike Dressler, of North Fond du Lac/Horace Mann High School, has been named Green Bay Packers Coach of the Week, the organization announced Thursday. Dressler is the first recipient of the award in 2008.

"I'm very humbled by this honor," Dressler said. "It is a reflection on not just me, but our team, our school and our community that is trying to rebuild this whole tradition at North Fond du Lac High School."

Dressler receives the award after leading North Fond du Lac to a 48-13 defeat of Ozaukee last Friday night at the Orioles' Art Humphrey Field. I thought Aaron Rodgers played well tonight. Number one, I thought he managed the game, especially starting in the number of unfavorable down and distances that we had particularly early in the game with all the penalties. I thought he did a good job managing the game without taking chances, playing to the play call, and taking what the defense gives you and so forth. So I was pleased with his performance tonight.

Sgt. Hubbard is a Wisconsin National Guard soldier who was seriously wounded in Iraq on July 4, 2006. I think any time you get into a training camp environment, or even if it was in-season, and you're on a schedule that demands a lot of your time and you have to take time away from that to do something else, it definitely knocks you out of your regularity and knocks you out of your rhythm. I thought he looked good just from watching him on the field today. I have not watched the film yet, but he looked like his normal self. He was flying around at practice and he is a very physical player, so it was good to have him back out there.

(Is his danger more with contact or just reaching and movement that could aggravate the injury?)
It is like a number of these injuries that are sprains. Any time that a player is injured, you have a medical report where they may feel there is a certain period of time that the player has to go through. Then you have the individual, and we knew that A.J. was going to rehab at a rapid pace, and in his mind he feels he has been ready for quite some time. So it is a combination of the individual and it is a combination of the doctor's report. As far the movement and so forth, I think he is really past all of those stage..

Annual 'Coats For Kids' Campaign Set For Monday

The annual 'Coats for Kids' collection will take place Monday, Sept. 8, at Lambeau Field. Fans attending the game will have the opportunity to donate new and gently used coats for distribution to needy children through area Salvation Army units.

Cash donations will be accepted as well.

The Salvation Army will be collecting coats at the corner of Lombardi Avenue and Oneida Street beginning at 5 a.m. Monday. Later, at 1:45 p.m., the Salvation Army also will be stationed at each entry gate to Lambeau Field to accept coat and cash donations.

The Salvation Army and several area cleaners - Lindeman's Cleaning, Royal Cleaners and Martinizing Dry Cleaning Service - are again leading the seasonal effort to collect coats. Coats can be dropped off at the participating cleaners, in addition to being brought to Monday's game.

Collections at the game will cease at kickoff and the number of coats collected will be announced during the second half of the game.

Two years after he co-founded the Packers with Curly Lambeau, George Calhoun began writing a piece called The Dope Sheet, which served as the official press release and game program from 1921-24.

Honoring Calhoun, the first publicity director, the Packers are running this weekly feature as their release, which is being made available to fans exclusively on Packers.com.

He is a big part of it, Ryan Grant, so I just focus on trying to get him ready. He hasn't had a lot of work. That's a legitimate concern. He didn't practice today. He just had some soreness and we were just being cautious with him. Brandon Jackson and Kregg Lumpkin, they are on our football team for a reason and will also contribute to the run game.

(With the shuffling on the offensive line, does the run game as a whole concern you?)
It's a big part of any offense. It's a concern with the whole offensive scheme and what you are trying to do, but we've trained for this particular situation. I didn't think we would be experiencing it in Week 1, but that's part of the game. I'm not really concerned about it. I'm just planning and working through it.

Matt Flynn is going to take the No. 2 quarterback reps right now. I talked to both Brian and Matt this morning, and number one, I'm pleased with the progress they've both made throughout training camp, but now's the time when your reps are limited. The ability to keep splitting them, we didn't feel was in the best interests ... it would have been in the best interests of the group, but I wanted to be sure we gave one of the individuals an opportunity to get ready. We just felt Matt was a little more productive than Brian in the preseason, but it's a competition that will continue. Matt has to hold the spot, and Brian will have an opportunity to get the spot back. Competition is healthy. They're both young. I've said it all along, they just need to play, they need reps.

Like at any position, I think at the end of the day we felt like it helps the team get better. Jon is a great guy. He has done a good job here. I think consistency might have been the overriding factor. It's tough. Both of those guys today did a nice job.

(Was hang time the biggest issue?)
I don't know. I think Jon has really improved. He's obviously a very talented, very strong athlete. He can hit punts like nobody I have ever seen. Again, I just think overall technique and get-off and the whole mechanics of punting, I think he has come a long way. Again, I think that's something he probably still needs to work on.

(What was so attractive about Derrick Frost?)
We do like his consistency. He has got very good mechanics, nice hands, a good athlete and we think he is a pretty solid punter.'

Packers Announce Additional Roster Moves

The Green Bay Packers have signed punter Derrick Frost and long snapper Brett Goode and released punter Jon Ryan and linebacker Abdul Hodge. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, announced the transactions Monday.

Frost, a fifth-year pro from Northern Iowa, spent the past three seasons with the Washington Redskins (2005-07) after beginning his NFL career with the Cleveland Browns (2004).

Goode originally signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a non-drafted free agent in April 2007 and participated in training camp before being released. He re-signed with the Jaguars in March 2008 before his release in June.
