Packers-Cowboys On NFL Network: Frequently Asked Questions
posted 11/25/2007
With the Packers-Cowboys game being televised on the NFL Network, some portions of Wisconsin and the country will not have the game on their basic cable systems. Here's what you need to know to be able to see the game:
What stations are televising Thursday's game between the Packers and Cowboys?
Nationally, the game is being broadcast on the NFL Network. Locally, the game also will be on WFRV Ch. 5 in Green Bay and WISN Ch. 12 in Milwaukee. The NFL allows local over-the-air TV stations in each team's home TV market to pick up the NFL Network feed. In Wisconsin, that applies to Green Bay and Milwaukee.
What if I don't live in Green Bay or Milwaukee but get those local channels through my cable service?
If you don't get those local channels via a regular antenna, you'll have to check with your cable company whether it is allowed to carry the game. Per NFL rules, the "local market" allowed to pick up the NFL Network feed is strictly Green Bay and Milwaukee. If you receive WFRV or WISN via your cable company, but are not certain whether or not you are technically in the Green Bay or Milwaukee market, your best course of action is to check with the cable company to be sure.
What if I don't live in Green Bay or Milwaukee and don't get the NFL Network? How can I see the game?
The only way would be to find a friend or local establishment that has the NFL Network via cable or satellite. Satellite companies DirecTV and DISH Network both carry the NFL Network.
Why isn't the NFL Network on my cable system?
The NFL Network is on more than 200 cable systems around the country, but it is not part of any package offered by Time Warner or Charter, two of the largest cable companies in the country. Negotiations are ongoing at the league level with those companies, and the NFL is trying to get the channel added to their expanded basic cable packages. Those companies currently insist on putting the NFL Network on a sports tier to charge customers an extra fee to get the channel. It's a difficult situation and the Packers organization understands the fans' frustrations.
Is there anything I can do?
If you want to voice your desire to get the channel, NFL Network is encouraging fans to visit www.IWantNFLNetwork.com for up-to-date information and tools to help have a voice in this matter.
