GREEN BAY – The Packers took a safety with the third of their four seventh-round picks on Saturday, drafting Iowa State's Anthony Johnson Jr. No. 242 overall.
Johnson played five years at Iowa State, transitioning from cornerback to safety during his senior year in 2022. He started a school-record 54 games while racking up 243 tackles (14 for loss), 28 pass breakups, four forced fumbles, three sacks and two interceptions. He started the final 53 games of his college career.
The 5-foot-11, 205-pound safety was named second-team All-Big 12 this past year after posting career-highs in tackles (60) and hauling in both of his career two INTs. Johnson ran a 4.54 in the 40 at the combine with a 37 ½-inch vertical and 10-5 broad jump.
While Adrian Amos remains a free agent, Johnson joins a safety room that returns Darnell Savage, Rudy Ford, Innis Gaines and Dallin Leavitt. Green Bay also signed sixth-year veteran Tarvarius Moore in March.
