The Packers have announced that Alan Tomow of Shawano High School has been named the Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week.

Tomow, in his fourth year as the varsity head coach of Shawano, led the Hawks to a 35-19 victory over Waupaca High School, on Saturday, Oct. 1. This victory improved the team's record to 5-2 on the season, resulting in a winning regular season record for only the seventh time in the school's history. The win marks the third time that the school will be playoff eligible. Shawano will now host Xavier High School at home on Oct. 7.

"It was our homecoming, so our team was really excited for it. Both teams were 4-2, so we expected a good Waupaca team," Tomow said. "We had a good week of preparation. Our kids did a great job in practice and our coaches did a great job with the game plan. We wanted to start fast and we were able to hit on a lot of big plays in the first half."

Tomow grew up in Shawano, Wis. He attended Shawano High School, where he participated in football, wrestling and track. Tomow played wide receiver under coach Matt Zoll for the Hawks. Following his graduation from Shawano in 2006, Tomow went on to play wide receiver for coach Thomas Saywer at Winona State University in Winona, Minn. He graduated from Winona State in 2010, receiving his bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, and went on to earn his master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse for Recreation Management in 2012.

While in graduate school in 2011, Tomow began his coaching career at Cochrane-Fountain City High School in Fountain City, Wis. He helped coach the wide receivers and the defensive backs for the Pirates. In 2012, he took a position coaching for the freshman football team in Shawano. After one year, Tomow was promoted to head coach for the Hawks football team.

"It shows how far we've come in such a short amount of time," Tomow said about the victory on Oct. 1. "Our staff works very hard during the week to prep our kids and put together game plans. The players do a great job of taking the information and asking questions. It's really been a lot of fun, and it's great to be a Hawk right now."

In addition to coaching football, Tomow is also a fitness specialist for the Menominee Tribal Clinic in Keshena, Wis. Tomow's family includes his wife, Abbie.

Tomow and his staff oversee a program of 65 players, including 43 players that play at the varsity level. His assistant staff includes Dave Ambrosius, Austin Gueths, Mike Homan, Luke Neubauer, Ron Schmalz, Steve Zais, Phil Rizzio, Joe Gangl and Alan Leiser.
