Alumni Spotlight: Don Davey

Packers DL Don Davey
Packers DL Don Davey

Most people in Northeastern Wisconsin dread the weather turning colder and snow starting to fly. Everyone except those in green and gold at Lambeau Field, that is. Don Davey, Packers defensive lineman from 1991 to 1994, says his best memories come from his time with the Packers. One of his fondest is a 1994 playoff game, the first hosted at Lambeau Field in 12 seasons. "We beat [the Lions] at Lambeau on one of these cold, freezing days with snow. I grew up here and to bring playoff football back to the Packers after such a long drought, to be part of that, was really special."

One of the best highlights of that win? "As a defense we held Barry Sanders to -1 yards rushing, which is his lowest output, high school, college or pro."

Don, who grew up in Manitowoc, played defensive tackle at the University of Wisconsin before the Packers drafted him in the 3rd round of the 1991 NFL Draft. To this day Don is active in the state of Wisconsin through his ownership of several Firehouse Subs locations. Don is proud of giving back to police and firefighters around the state of Wisconsin. A portion of proceeds from Firehouse Subs sales is donated to local public safety organizations.

In addition to operating Firehouse Subs, Don has run a wealth management firm and helped NFL players with their finances. Don also satisfies his competitive side by participating in IRONMAN Triathlons. He recently completed his 11th full-distance IRONMAN and competed in the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii a few years ago. He is also proud to coach his daughters' flag football teams and teaches coding club at his daughters' school.

As much as Don likes to keep busy, he always appreciates coming back to Green Bay. "This is a magical place. It's special in, not just the NFL, but professional sports in general. A community-owed team, this field, this stadium, these people, I absolutely love coming back here. I'm so proud to have been a Packer."
