Annual Coats for Kids collection set for Sept. 8 season opener

The annual Coats for Kids collection will take place Thursday, Sept. 8, at Lambeau Field prior to the much anticipated Green Bay Packers-New Orleans Saints season opener. Fans attending the game will have the opportunity to donate new and gently used coats for distribution to needy children through area Salvation Army units.

Cash donations will be accepted as well.

The Salvation Army will be collecting coats in the parking lot beginning at 3:30 p.m., and also will be stationed at each entry gate to Lambeau Field to accept coat and cash donations.

The Salvation Army, Fox 11, Cumulus Broadcasting and several area cleaners – Lindeman's Cleaning, Royal Cleaners and Martinizing Dry Cleaning Service – are again leading the seasonal effort to collect coats. Coats can be dropped off at the participating cleaners, in addition to being brought to Thursday's game.

Collections at the game will cease at kickoff and the number of coats collected will be announced during the second half of the game.

Last year, the Coats for Kids collection garnered 480 coats and $10,000 in cash donations prior to the Packers-Bills game.
