GREEN BAY – It's been a busy week for new Packers inside linebackers Antonio Morrison and Korey Toomer.
The two continue to catch up on the Packers' playbook after joining the team in the past two weeks after injuries to Jake Ryan and Oren Burks.
Morrison, acquired in a trade from Indianapolis Aug. 26, played 37 total snaps (20 defense, 17 special teams) in the Packers' preseason finale against Kansas City, recording two tackles.
Toomer, a fifth-year veteran who was among San Francisco's final cuts last Saturday, signed with the Packers earlier this week. With their contributions on special teams, there's a realistic chance both could potentially play in Sunday's opener against Chicago.
"They're veterans. … They've shown up and stepped right in," said Head Coach Mike McCarthy in his Thursday morning news conference. "They've spent a lot with Ron Zook and special teams. They're off to an excellent start."
The Packers enter the regular season in good health with only one player, safety Josh Jones, not practicing so far this week. Burks (shoulder) had a "good day" Wednesday and will be working again in the limited group on Thursday, according to McCarthy.
The Packers should have all five of their starting offensive linemen available for Sunday's game against the Bears, with McCarthy adding Justin McCray remains in the "first seat" to start at right guard in the first game of a monumental season.
"This particular opener, it's an all-in-one for sure," McCarthys aid. "It's the 100th season anniversary, we're playing our division rival, 197th opportunity to compete against the Bears. It's your home opener, and just for the focus for 2018, it's a division game. It's our first division game, and we clearly understand the importance of - you have to win those division games."
