It was a moment to make Mark Tauscher's mom proud.

The Green Bay Packers offensive lineman had his shoulder-length hair cut as part of a fundraiser for children's services at a Marshfield hospital.

He agreed to get his trademark locks shorn if people donated at least $25,000 to the effort.

"When this idea came up, I thought it was a ploy from my mom," Tauscher said.

People anted up $28,000, and Tauscher found himself sitting on a stage at Saint Joseph's Hospital on Monday while donors, staff and families watched what his mom had long awaited.

"Oh man," Tauscher said after a stylist showed him the results in a mirror. "It's definitely different."

His parents, Dennis and Dianne Tauscher of Auburndale, smiled in the audience.

Tauscher, an Auburndale High School and University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate, said he was more than happy to cut his hair when he found out the money would help children.
