With a mix of crowd-pleasing classics and his latest hits, country music superstar Kenny Chesney energized over 40,000 fans on the thawed tundra at Lambeau Field Saturday in the first major concert held at the historic stadium since it was renovated in 2003.
For over two hours, Chesney shrunk a huge stage in the south end zone with a tireless performance where he stayed in constant motion, with fans getting a large dose of his 21 No. 1 hits, as well as a handful of cover songs.
Keeping with Packers tradition, during the afternoon the parking lot was filled with tailgaters who warmed up by lounging in lawn chairs, grilling and playing touch football games. Despite the overcast skies, there were shirtless fans in shorts rather than parkas.
During the song, "Boys of Fall," Chesney was joined onstage with Coach McCarthy and the Lombardi Trophy.
"Uncle Kracker," who opened the show late in the afternoon, also joined Chesney in the evening on stage for their No. 1 duet, "When the Sun Goes Down."
Singer Billy Currington warmed up the crowd with his string of hits, followed by the "Zac Brown Band" after Currington's lively set. Brown joined Chesney on the stage later in the show.
Lambeau Field is the fourth of 10 NFL stadiums Chesney will play on his nearly 60-date "Goin' Coastal Tour."
