Packers All-Pro safety Darren Sharper is taking a break from football this week as he exchanges shoulder pads for a 5-iron and hosts the inaugural Darren Sharper Open, June 13.
Presented by Badger Mutual Insurance, the tournament will take place at the Hidden Glen Country Club in Milwaukee. All proceeds from the event will benefit The Sharper Kids Foundation, which was established in 1999 to benefit youth, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
"When you can combine playing golf and helping charity, you're doing something right," said Sharper, who is entering his seventh season with Green Bay. "The proceeds go to Sharper Kids and Make-A-Wish. I'm very pleased by the response and I think everyone is going to benefit from a great time this weekend, especially the charities."
In addition to the soldout 32 foursomes participating in the tournament, numerous volunteers and several Packers will be lending support to the event.
Among the Packers expected to attend are Marques Anderson, Kevin Barry, Rob Davis, Donald Driver, Carl Ford, Ahman Green, Al Harris, Cletidus Hunt, Mike McKenzie, Jamal Reynolds, Javon Walker and Bryant Westbrook.
