Donald Driver of the Green Bay Packers has been named this week's Ameriquest Mortgage Neighborhood MVP, it was announced Wednesday.
Driver is being honored for his dedication in helping single homeless mothers. Helping these women is especially important, because for a time during his early teen years, Driver and his family were homeless. Through the Donald Driver Foundation, Donald and his wife, Betina, devote much of their time helping homeless mothers get back on their feet and buy a home. Though Driver acknowledges that these are big challenges to tackle, he believes he and others in the community can do it one family at a time. With Driver's personal money, private donations and sponsorships, the foundation gave a home to a family in his hometown of Houston and one in Green Bay this year.
Helping provide a better life to children is just as important to Driver. In addition to his work with homeless mothers, he has also paid for hospital bills of sick children, spoken to hundreds of Green Bay-area children about fitness and making good decisions, and has given time and money to organizations such as the Milwaukee Juvenile Detention Center, PALS program, Children's Miracle Network and the Calvary Baptist Church Scholarship Fund.
The Ameriquest Mortgage Neighborhood MVP Award recognizes an NFL player each week during the regular season for his dedication to making improvements to neighborhoods in his community.
The winners of the Ameriquest Mortgage Neighborhood MVP Award are selected each week for their outstanding work in their community and are featured on a weekly segment on NFL Network's flagship program NFL Total Access on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. EST. Ameriquest also makes a $1,000 donation each week to the charitable organization designated by the Neighborhood MVP.
At the end of the season, one of the weekly Neighborhood MVP Award winners will be selected as the national Neighborhood MVP of the Year. Ameriquest will make an additional $10,000 contribution to this player's charity of choice.
