Dope Sheet: Packers travel to take on the 49ers

This will be the 10th postseason meeting between the Packers and 49ers, the most between any two teams in NFL playoff history.

The Green Bay Packers will take on the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Playoffs.

  • This will be the 10th postseason meeting between the Packers and 49ers, the most between any two teams in NFL playoff history.
  • San Francsico holds a 5-4 edge in the postseason series while Green Bay holds the advantage in points (218-204).
  • Of the nine postseason contests betweeen the Packers and 49ers, only three games have been decided by single digits with all three of those contests having a margin of three points. Two of those three-point games have come in the last three matchups (2013 Wild Card and 2021 Divisional).
  • Saturday will be the fifth meeting between Green Bay and San Francisco in the Divisional Playoffs, (1995, 1996, 2012, 2021) with each team winnning two games.
  • Green Bay will be facing San Francisco in the playoffs for the third time in the last four seasons (2020, 2022). Dating back to the 2014 season, the 49ers will become the second opponent the Packers have faced three times in the playoffs (Dallas, 2014, 2016, 2023).
  • The Packers are 3-2 against San Francisco at Levi's Stadium (including postseason), including wins in each of their last two visits (2020-21). Green Bay has a winning percentage of .600 at Levi's, which is tied with the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks (both are 6-4) for No. 1 in the NFL among teams to play there more than twice.
  • The Packers (56) and 49ers (54) have the top regular-season win totals in the NFC since 2019. Including the playoffs, Green Bay has the top winning percentage in the NFC (.663, 59-30) while the 49ers check in at No. 2 (.652, 60-32) over that span.

They surpassed Jim Irwin and Max McGee for the most regular-season and postseason games broadcast for the Packers with 313 at the 2018 season opener against Chicago.

MATT LaFLEUR…In his fifth season as the Packers' 15th head coach.

  • Is in his 15th season in the NFL, having previously served as an offensive coordinator for two seasons (Los Angeles Rams, 2017; Tennessee Titans, 2018), a quarterbacks coach for six seasons (Washington Redskins, 2010-13; Atlanta Falcons, 2015-16), and an offensive assistant for two seasons (Houston Texans, 2008-09).
  • In his first five seasons leading the Packers, has authored one of the greatest starts to a head-coaching career in NFL history. Per the Elias Sports Bureau, his 56 wins are tied for the second most in league history by a head coach in his first five seasons in the NFL, trailing only George Seifert (62 in 1989-93). Green Bay's 56-27 regular-season record since 2019 is tied for No. 3 in the NFL and ranks No. 1 in the NFC.
  • Became the first coach in NFL history to post 13-plus wins in three straight seasons and his 39 wins from 2019-21 passed Seifert (38) for the most wins by an NFL head coach in his first three seasons in the league (Elias). His 39 wins are also tied for the second most by a coach over any three-season span in league history, trailing only Andy Reid's 40 wins with the Kansas City Chiefs from 2020-22 and Mike Ditka's 40 wins with the Chicago Bears from 1985-87 (Elias).
  • Guided the Packers to a 32-9 record (.780) in the regular season from 2019-23 at Lambeau Field, the top home mark in the NFL since 2019. His .733 win percentage (22-8 record) against NFC North opponents in his first five seasons also ranks as the best in the history of the NFC North/Central (min. 10 games).
  • In his first season leading the Packers in 2019, became the first coach in club history to lead the team to the playoffs in his debut season. Also led the largest one-year win improvement in team history (plus-seven wins).

KYLE SHANAHAN…In his seventh season as the 49ers' 20th head coach.

  • Is in his 20th season as an NFL coach, having previously served nine seasons as an offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons (2015-16), Cleveland Browns (2014), Washington Redskins (2010-13) and Houston Texans (2008-09) prior to becoming the 49ers' head coach in 2017.
  • Named Coach of the Year by Sporting News in 2019 after leading the 49ers to an NFC West title and an appearance in Super Bowl LIV.
  • Under his guidance, San Francisco's offense in 2019 ranked first in the NFL in rushing touchdowns (23), second in points per game (29.9) and rushing yards per game (144.1) and fourth in total offense (381.1 yards per game).
  • Directed an offense that ranked in the top 10 in the NFL in yards gained in six of his nine seasons as an offensive coordinator (2008-09, 2012-13 and 2015-16).
  • Named AP Assistant Coach of the Year, Coordinator of the Year by Sporting News and Assistant Coach of the Year by the Pro Football Writers of America in 2016 after helping the Falcons to an NFC South division title, an appearance in Super Bowl LI and set franchise records in yards per game (415.8), points scored (540), net passing yards per game (295.3) and average yards per play (6.7).

  • The series began between Green Bay and San Francisco in 1950 when the Packers defeated the 49ers, 25-21, in Green Bay.
  • After the series-opening loss, San Francisco won 13 of 15 regular-season games between 1950-58, but Green Bay had a run of its own, winning 10 of 11 contests between 1959-64 and nine in a row from 1996-2010.
  • This will be the 10th playoff contest played between the Packers and 49ers, the most between any two teams in NFL playoff history. Since 2000, these franchises have met five times in the playoffs with San Francisco winning four of the five games.
