In the wake of Hurricane Katrina's disastrous journey along the Gulf Coast, many people in Mississippi and Louisiana lost their homes and loved ones. In the face of this devastating tragedy, the Favre family is calling upon their Packers family to join them in assisting in the hurricane relief effort, an endeavor that will take many months and possibly years.
Part of that effort will take place this Saturday, Oct. 8, from 12 to 5 p.m. at the Lambeau Field Atrium, when the Favre family and the Packers Pro Shop host a Hurricane Katrina relief effort. Favre's brothers, Scott and Jeff, sister, Brandi, Bonita and Deanna Favre will sign copies of the bestselling book, FAVRE. The book will be on sale at the Pro Shop at a discounted price, $22.95. Also, each book will be labeled with a special hurricane relief sticker. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to the Brett Favre Fourward Foundation Mississippi Relief Fund. The $22.95 price will remain until all books in the special stock (7,000) have been sold.
"My home and so many others were either battered or lost in the hurricane and I have since returned to Green Bay to seek comfort and be with family," said Bonita Favre, mother of Packers quarterback Brett Favre. "We are so blessed to have such a supportive Packers family. So many have reached out to our families in Mississippi and will continue to do so, whether it's through the book signing or in other ways. I look forward to seeing many of them this Saturday."
Books to be signed must be purchased at the Pro Shop from the special stock. In order to have as many customers served as possible, the Favres will sign up to two books per person during the signing period. Please note that fans may purchase as many books as they would like from the specially priced stock, above and beyond the two to be signed.
The Favre family will be taking turns signing throughout the five hours with a goal of signing 2,000 books. Also, an additional 1,000 books will be available for purchase with Bonita's signature already in them.
The Favres, Rugged Land Books and the Packers Pro Shop have worked together to bring FAVRE to customers at a special price AND contribute to the hurricane relief efforts. Customers will save $7 off the regular purchase price of each book and a $5 donation will be made for each book purchased - for each book sold, the Pro Shop is donating $4 and Rugged Land is donating $1.
