The Green Bay Packers and Head Coach Mike McCarthy have partnered to make a $100,000 donation to the Greenfield Neighborhood, it was announced Wednesday. This is the third year McCarthy and the Packers have made a donation to the area.
The Pittsburgh-area neighborhood in which McCarthy grew up, the Greenfield Neighborhood will see three neighborhood organizations receive the benefit of the donation: St. Rosalia Academy,*the Greenfield Baseball Association and the Greenfield Organization*.
"I feel privileged to be able to continue the support of these groups in my home town," said McCarthy. "I'm very grateful for the meaningful impact they have in the community, and it's a pleasure to be in a position to assist with those efforts."
St. Rosalia Academy is a preschool-through-8th grade school from which McCarthy graduated as a youth. The school has a strong association with the McCarthy family as his four siblings all graduated from the school and three of his nieces now attend the institution. This year's donation again will go to the school's tuition assistance fund.
The Greenfield Baseball Association will receive funds to help in the operations of its many programs and leagues.
The Greenfield Organization was founded in 1968 by a small group of concerned citizens who organized to improve recreational facilities in the community. The mission of the organization is to aid in maintaining and enhancing the spirit, viability and economic and social stability of the Greenfield community. Over its many years of service, the organization has successfully worked on the construction of the Magee Recreation Center, the Greenfield Senior Center and the rehabilitation of the Swineburne Bridge, as well as many other of Greenfield's recreational facilities.
In 2008, '09 and '10, McCarthy and the Packers additionally teamed up to make a $100,000 donation to Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan., to endow an athletic scholarship in McCarthy's name at his alma mater. The two also have made $100,000 donations in the Green Bay area, to the Boys & Girls Club of Green Bay in 2008 and the Autism Society of Northeast Wisconsin (ASNEW) in 2009.
