Mike Gregory of Edgerton High School has been named Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week, the organization announced Wednesday.
Gregory, in his 14th season as the head coach of the WIAA (Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association) Division 3 program, recorded his third conference win of the year on Friday, Sept. 20, when the Crimson Tide beat the previously undefeated Jefferson Eagles by a score of 28-13. Friday's victory marks the first time Edgerton has defeated Jefferson since joining the Rock Valley-North Conference six years ago.
"We have a great group of kids, including 19 seniors, who have really been dedicated and have worked hard to put themselves in position for the success they're having this season," said Gregory. "We have such a brutal schedule and our kids have risen to the occasion. It's really been a fun year."
A Walworth, Wis., native, Gregory is a 1976 graduate of Big Foot High School, where he played quarterback under his father, Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame Inductee Jack Gregory. After high school, he attended Ripon College where he played defensive back for head coach Bob Giese. Upon graduating in 1980, Gregory accepted his first coaching position as an assistant under his father at Edgerton before being promoted to head coach in 2000. Gregory is also the school's physical education teacher.
Gregory is assisted by Kyle Bowman, Tony Dewar, Pete Lien, Russ Lietz, Kurt Muchow, Marc Papendieck and Eric Thompson.
Gregory and his wife, Vicki, have two children, Karie and Bryan.
