I've made my New Year's resolution

The draft and khakis are all about value

Paul from Kilrush, Ireland

Vic, may your troubles be less and your blessings be more, and nothing but happiness come through your door. A Happy New Year from Ireland.

May the Irish be blessed by the Lord, especially when they play Stanford. They should be playing Clemson tonight.

Eric from Decatur, IL

Vic, I love reading "Ask Vic." My question is why haven't the Packers used an offensive approach that gets the ball out of Aaron Rodgers' hand faster with short, quick passes?

Coach McCarthy said the receivers need to get open quicker.

"Culture wins football. Culture will beat scheme every day." – Chip Kelly. Sounds to me like what have you done for me today won out. Chip was working towards having the right kind of guys in his locker room and his time was cut short. You need to give people the time to get their guys in the system, even if it means taking a step back. Maybe he would never succeed but he never had the chance to accomplish what he wanted to accomplish.

Chuck Noll was 1-13, 5-9 and 6-8 in his first three seasons. We were more patient back then. I think Chip knew those days are over.

Spurgeon from Butterburn, UK

Vic, help me understand what you meant by "I'm not a theater kind of guy." Just curious.

I don't like sitting in the dark for two hours. I like sitting in my chair, and near my icebox and porcelain facility. It gives me a feeling of security.

Ryan from Roselle, IL

Does draft-and-develop apply to grocery shopping? Don't buy for need, buy what's on sale?

It absolutely does for me. The draft, in my opinion, is all about value. I liken it to buying a pair of pants. I never pass up a pair of quality khakis at a good price. I've got 10 pairs of khakis hanging in my closet, but there's always room for another pair because they never go out of style and they'll always get worn. It's the same thing with quality big guys. They never go out of style and you'll always be glad you have them.

Jessi from Sterling, KS

Thank you for giving us straight forward answers. What thoughts were going through your head as you watched the Packers play the Cardinals?

I thought to myself, "If the Packers have to come back here and play, it's a good thing they had this chance to see the Cardinals' speed up close and personal."

Mark from Stewartville, MN

Vic, what did you think of the Arizona coaching staff's decision to challenge the officials' call that the Cardinals' sack on Scott Tolzien wasn't a safety? I mean, good grief, Arizona was leading 38-8 at the time, and if they win the challenge they push the score to 40-8 and get the ball back. The game was virtually over and the officials made their call. Why not just let it stand without challenging it?

I wouldn't have challenged, but I think there's a fear fans might complain or a player might have a contract incentive in some way attached to that play, or that a safety would set some kind of all-time team record, etc. The safe thing is to just play it out full and avoid an unforeseen controversy or distraction. It's kind of sad that it's come to that. Bruce Arians isn't a run-it-up kind of guy. He's also the best conference call interview we had all year.

Ginger from Superior, WI

Vic, what will your 2016 New Year's resolution be?

My motto for 2016 is "Be new." It has nothing to do with football. It's just a little ditty I've created to help freshen my attitude on life. Happy New Year, everybody! I hope you'll join me on Friday at one o'clock for a New Year's Day chat.
