It’s encouraging to see Jordan Love out there after what happened in Brazil

Wes, Coach said Jordan Love was "limited in practice on Wednesday." Please define "limited."

Per the NFL, it means Love took "less than 100% of a player's normal repetitions." Hopefully, that clears it up for everyone.

Rick from Caledonia, WI

Any indication or information as to Jordan Love's schedule to return to practice?

Love was out there Wednesday and said he’s “hopeful” to play Sunday. While "limited" was the word of the day, I must say Love looked pretty good during the individual period that was open to the media. Again, the Packers and Love will take the week to see how he responds, but it's encouraging to see him out there after what happened in Brazil.

Mike from Baraboo, WI

What are the keys to beating the Titans?

Spoff did a nice job of laying out the “musts” in his Wednesday column while responding to Mike from Charlotte. What I'll add is the Packers must correct some lingering mistakes such as not converting takeaways into points and falling short in the red zone (2-for-7). Brayden Narveson already has attempted eight field goals. Mason Crosby kicked 16 the entire season when the Packers led the NFL in red-zone efficiency in 2020. Gotta punch the ball in.

JC from Madison, WI

I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but I was impressed with all of the actions Malik Willis used after the handoff. Every time he motioned like he still had the ball. Possibly setting up some plays for Sunday?

The beauty of playing winning football is it opens up many possibilities. Willis was a highly touted QB prospect because of all the ingredients he brought to the table. Sunday provided a small taste of what he's capable of cooking up.

Greg from Downers Grove, IL

Congrats to Willis and the team as well as our coaches for playing a solid game on Sunday. This week has so many storylines, with the largest being Malik going against his former team. Obviously, Tennessee knows him inside and out. They will certainly go after what they believe his weaknesses to be. What if anything is ML doing to keep MW highly focused and to prevent TN from getting into his head? "Stay the course Malik" is my theme this week.

I don't think you have to worry about that with Willis. He has a good head on his shoulders. If called on, Willis is ready to do the job. Again, the opponent comes secondary.

Mike from Montpelier, WI

Emesis! I'll add that to my vocabulary.

I did everything in my power to avoid having to use "blew chunks" in my prose.

Right when MarShawn Lloyd starts getting some touches! So frustrating, hoping for a speedy recovery for the promising rookie. I like this addition of Chris Brooks, however – 5.6 yards per carry in a small sample size in Miami, really solid season at BYU in 2022 as well. Solid size/build. What have you seen/heard about him out of practice these past few weeks?

I'll have more on Brooks this morning, but the Packers clearly liked him. He signed to their practice squad a day after the Dolphins released him and quickly made an impression on Matt LaFleur. Brooks made the Dolphins' roster as an undrafted rookie last year and popped a 52-yard run in that big-time blowout of Denver in Week 3. Miami thought enough of Brooks to designate him to return off IR last year after missing some time with a leg injury.

Chuck from Santa Ana, CA

Is MarShawn eligible to return later this year or is he done for the season? I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere that he can return. If Josh Jacobs got hurt, we are really thin at RB.

Lloyd is eligible to return after four games. The only players who must be immediately designated to return are those placed on injured reserve before the 53-man roster is finalized (e.g. Jonathan Ford). The Packers can reactivate seven more players from IR for the remainder of the regular season. I assume Lloyd will be one of them at some point.

Corey from Seattle, WA

I saw the injury report and it was half our O-line and a bunch of stars. Should we be worried?

I don't think so. The Packers played a tough, physical game on Sunday. I probably would've been more surprised if they had a short injury report. I am curious to learn more on Carrington Valentine, though. He's been playing good ball.

Adam from Rapid City, SD

More an observation than a question. I've watched both of the games this year and really haven't seen either Eric Stokes or Carrington Valentine's names mentioned during play. I take that to mean they are both doing a very good job of not getting beat. Understanding it's early in the season, I am very impressed by the Packers' defensive secondary. Thoughts?

Also, this doesn't surprise me considering what LaFleur said in camp. The Packers feel they have more than 11 starters on the defensive side of the ball and were open to rotations. If you can make the rotations work in the secondary, that only helps Valentine and Evan Williams stay sharp. If someone unfortunately goes down, you have players out there who are experienced playing with one another.

Richard from Madison, WI

Mike wrote "Dennard Wilson is the Titans' new defensive coordinator, and he's held top defensive assistant positions with the Ravens, Eagles and Jets within the last half dozen years." It seemed like Mike was trying to praise the guy, but it seems to me more like he couldn't hold a job. So, what's YOUR take on it, Wes?

That's the life of an NFL coach, brother. You ain't always climbing the same coaching ladder. Sometimes you have to bounce around a bit to get where you want to go. Wilson was a pivotal part to what Baltimore accomplished last year and now he's off to a strong start in Tennessee.

Scott from Las Vegas, NV

Insiders, I've noticed several ineligible man downfield calls against the Pack and other games I watched this past weekend. To me it just looks like an O-lineman blocking the opponent several yards as needed to support the run or pass play. Why is this a penalty? What am I missing?

O-linemen cannot be more than one yard beyond the line of scrimmage when the pass is thrown unless they're engaged in a continuous block prior to leaving that zone. It's like the NFL's version of offsides in soccer.

Ray from Phoenix, AZ

With another hot and humid Sunday coming, the Packers will continue to rotate players on both lines. If Jordan Morgan is out, who is next man up at guard?

If Morgan can't go – he didn't practice Wednesday – I assume Sean Rhyan will handle all the right guard snaps. Jacob Monk likely would be the next guard up unless Green Bay starts moving people around.

Randy from Westminster, CO

I was in Nashville for two weeks at the end of August and it was brutally hot and humid. This will be the third week of tough conditions for the Packers, and we've seen it take a toll on players. What steps will the coaches and players need to do to be prepared for these conditions?

That acclimation process has been underway for weeks, if not months when factoring in training camp. Xavier McKinney said he actually doesn't mind hot games. Keep in mind many guys train in humidity in the offseason.

Richard from Menasha, WI

I was at the game last Sunday and it was hot. There were sun shades on the sidelines for the Packers. Will the equipment team be bringing them to Nashville or any other equipment to help keep the team cool? Also, I look forward to my first Packers pep rally. Hope to meet you guys and say hello.

I look forward to seeing you in Nashville! I don't know the details of the Packers' plans for the heat, but rest assured the equipment staff is on top of it. Individually, it's up to players to stay hydrated and listen to their bodies.

Gary from Chippewa Falls, WI

Can you explain what the occasional reference to run fits means?

Just having players at the second level of the defense in the right spot, filling the correct gaps. Fitting the run is basically a fancy way of saying the player filled the right gap.

The Green Bay Packers held practice at Clarke Hinkle Field on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024.

Matt from Greensboro, NC

The fourth-down hard count theatrics are predictable and telling. The more adjustments and pointing, the more obvious it is the offense has zero intention to snap the ball. How fun would it be if the coach installed a "go" hard count with all the theatrics and then actually snapped the ball as the play clock hit one or right at zero.

Brilliant if it works. Boneheaded if it doesn't. Either way, it's a bit too reckless for my palate.

Joseph from Green Bay, WI

What is the most common type of non-contact injury for football players?

On scale alone, it's gotta be hamstrings.

Robert from Verona, WI

I really appreciate the comments from Jake in Decatur, GA. Too often we hear people lamenting missed opportunities that could have benefitted their team while completely ignoring the opponent's missed opportunities. It's great to analyze the potential a team has if they can clean up some of their mistakes, but it's disingenuous to ignore that both sides will always have mistakes they wish they hadn't made in a game. Love that II always keeps it real.

"Action" penalties, as I call them, will happen. Teams are gonna draw unwarranted flags for holding and roughing the passer. The key is to keep your technique as clean as possible and eliminate pre-snap/concentration penalties. False starts, delay of games, offsides and illegal formations are the NFL's version of death by a thousand cuts…and we ain't talking the paper kind.

Martin from Coeur d'Alene, ID

Jaire Alexander's celebration (and the secondary in general) is a seat belt for "strap city,"g correct? Not a sword? Thanks.

The other way around…it's a sword. Ja said it himself a couple years ago.

Wes listed the 16 players with Packers ties up for HOF review. Which, if any, of them have a chance at making it to the 15 finalists? The only ones I see might be Robinson and Saturday, mainly for their work prior to joining the Packers late in their careers.

Jahri Evans has already been a finalist, though the Packers wouldn't count him towards their HOF numbers if he does get in. As far as the career Packers, it's going to be an uphill battle. On a side note, I'm stunned Clay Matthews III wasn't nominated. I understand fans are involved, but there's gotta be a failsafe for that. Matthews has a better NFL resume than many of the 167 nominees.

Jeff from Green Bay, WI

Hello Wes, unless I missed it, we never found out if you went to the Alabama/Wisconsin game last Saturday. Curious minds (me) want to know. Thanks!

I drove to Madison and enjoyed a nice meal with friend and former Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel scribe Michael Cohen, who now covers the Big Ten for Fox Sports. I was a gametime decision on Wisconsin/Alabama and ultimately saved my cash. I did check out the Dane County farmer's market for the first time with a close friend of mine, the award-winning Tessa Ruid. I also met a nice Inbox reader who sold me some delicious Snug Haven grapes. I made it back safely to Green Bay in time for the Counting Crows concert. It was a fun weekend.

Greg from Big Lake, MN

In 2017 we were invited to a wedding in Austin TX. The groom was a family friend, and the bride was Bill Callahan's daughter and Brian Callahan's sister. My friends and I had a lengthy conversation with Bill and shook Brian's hand. Very nice family. I understand Bill is coaching the offensive line for his son.

You understand right…and congrats to the lovely couple.

I only asked the question about the video glitch on website three weeks ago and you finally reply now to the question!

That's a strange way of saying thank you.

Thomas from Jacksonville, FL

"We're aware of the video glitch and our app developers are working on a fix." What do developers call the person they call in to investigate the app program? Magnum API. Sorry, you opened the door.

And now I'm shutting it in your face.

Ummy from Two Rivers, WI

How ironic is it that Craig Counsell's team loses which gives the NL Central championship to the Brewers. Karma at its best. GBG!

I know enough about karma not to chortle here. I want the Brewers playing into October.

Paul from West Allis, WI

When did Wes become such a comedian? His comment about "you never know what's going to be thrown at you" about Josh Myers throwing up was classic! He probably could quit his day job and go on the big stage! Also, I love his commentary and question-answer format. It's the BEST Packer coverage over any others and I read all kinds of Packers stuff. So, keep up the great work, Wes.

I'm sure there's plenty of folks that wish I would quit the day job. Oh, and try the veal. Have a good Thursday, folks.
