Morning guys, I may have missed something but when did we start allowing Newton's third law in the Inbox?
I hope everyone's enjoying the holiday.

Is there a Packers numerical, not alphabetical, roster on the website? It's much easier to identify players with a numerical roster while watching the game.
You can click on any of the top-line categories of roster data and it'll sort the roster that way.
Ben from Fort Worth, TX
Speaking of numbers, is it safe to assume that 12 is unofficially retired until the day it is officially retired, again assuming that it will indeed be retired? I'm betting no one wore 4 from '08 to '15 or so when it was officially retired? Has there been a case where a player had to surrender their number due to it being retired?
Correct on your first two queries. I'm not aware of any situation described by your last one. Nobody wore Favre's, Hutson's, Starr's or White's numbers from the time they finished playing until they were officially retired. Two players wore Nitschke's 66 – Paul Rudzinski in 1975 and Mike Lewis in 1980 – before it was retired in '83. The weird one is Canadeo's 3. There's no record of a public ceremony to retire it. The media guide indicates it was retired in '52, Canadeo's last season, but kicker Ben Agajanian is listed as having worn it in '61.

I'm confused by the Savage comparison as to why No. 24 doesn't have to buy out the No. 37 jerseys but being a Round 1 pick means you have to?
There's a ton of jerseys manufactured immediately for first-round draft picks, once their number has been chosen. Not so much for seventh-rounders.
Richard from Farmington Hills, MI
"I believe three dozen players on the 53 are 25 or under. It is indeed a young man's game." Given this info from II, I'd say there's an excellent chance that the Pack once again has the youngest team in the league.
In fact it does. The 33rd team compiled all the data and the Packers' average age of 25.11 years is by far the youngest in the league, by almost half a year. Next is Tampa Bay at 25.59.
Dave from Hollywood, MD
Regarding the choice of uniforms for Brazil, I'm sure the Eagles chose white to please the local fans and avoid any curse for a team wearing green in the stadium.
That would be my guess as well.
Lori from Heredia, Costa Rica
Hey Spoff, will you be able to do your live blog during the game on Friday? Looks like no tweeting allowed from Brazil. It looks like the wildfires are dying down. Have you heard anything addressed on the ban on X or the air quality in Sao Paulo?
I've heard a little about the air quality, but nothing from the NFL. The X ban shouldn't impact the live blog, because it's not on that platform. I'm still crossing my fingers the technology functions for us given the audience we're expecting.
Ryan from Sun Prairie, WI
Who makes the decision on the game roster? Is it the head coach or the general manager on who to elevate from the practice squad, etc.?
As with most such topics around here, it's a collaboration that involves constant communication. But ultimately, the head coach decides who/what he needs on the gameday roster.
Joe from St. Louis, MO
Hi Mike and Wes, as far as I understand the TE position is difficult because of double duty – part OL and part receiver. But apart from converted wide receivers or playing other positions in college, for those who played TE in college, what is it about the TE position that requires more time for development?
It's all the pre-snap and post-snap adjustments, the on-the-fly stuff, that gets folded into the double duty you mentioned. The defensive look might force a protection adjustment where a tight end thought he was releasing into a route, but now has to stay in and block, and the protection might slide to where he's suddenly blocking the top edge rusher on the defense with the help of a running back to chip, that sort of thing. Or if he is out in the pattern, he's reading the defense and choosing his route based on the coverage leverage, and he must learn to read the defense the same way the QB does so there's trust he'll be where he's supposed to be and when. I'm not saying those guys don't do any of that in college, but in the NFL, it's every single play – thinking, adjusting, executing. There's a ton to process and learn before it becomes second nature, and only then does the player resume playing the game at "full speed" because he doesn't have to think as much.
Dave from Gwinn, MI
Watching GB vs. Minnesota, "Favre's final start at Lambeau" on YouTube, a stat came up that it was Brett's 119th start at Lambeau (NFL record for the most starts at one stadium for a QB). I imagine that won't be broken any time soon?
It was shattered about a decade later. I believe Brady started more than 150 games, including playoffs, at Gillette Stadium.
Sandy from Green Bay, WI
Do you have any reservations about "kicking" off the season with a rookie kicker having very little time to learn the Packer system?
There's not much of a "system" to learn as a kicker, but it's still a different, and potentially difficult, situation for all involved. So yes, I admittedly have reservations, and hopefully they'll soon be dispelled. But whether or not it works out, attempting to upgrade at kicker was absolutely a necessary call.
Josh from Newhall, CA
Ok, just when I thought I was adjusted to seeing LBs and RBs wearing single-digit numbers, I get hit with our new kicker wearing 44. My head is going to explode every time we attempt a kick. He might as well have chosen 88.
Oh, no.
Joe from Wausau, WI
What a strange offseason and preseason. Packers sign two elite free agents, and there's been more talk about the backup quarterback and kicker than about what Josh Jacobs and Xavier McKinney can do for this team. Thank Hod football season is almost here!
We spent a lot of time in the spring on Jacobs and McKinney. If you want to be reminded, click here and here. Roster reduction time was one of the more active around here in quite some time, so it deserved such attention.
Kyle from Los Angeles, CA
Do coaches have days off when the players have days off?
During the offseason, often yes. During the season, not really.
Mark from Amarillo, TX
Gents, as we approach the end of off-preseasons, one item of interest regarding J. Love, is whether he fulfilled his offseason goal of learning how to shuffle cards. GPG
He told me he did, and that it wasn't as complicated as he thought it might be, but he's still working to smooth it out.
Tommy from Pittsburgh, PA
What exactly does the practice squad do? In my mind, they're a team that the actual team plays against during practice, but I really don't know.
Players on the practice squad make up a portion of the scout team that runs the upcoming opponent's plays in practice. There aren't enough PS players for a full offense or defense, so reserves on the 53 also take scout-team reps.
The Green Bay Packers held practice at Clarke Hinkle Field on Sunday, Sept. 1, ahead of their upcoming Week 1 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles in São Paulo, Brazil.
Caleb from Louisville, CO
The top end of this year's draft class has missed a significant amount of preseason work camp and games. Can talent alone compensate for missed time at this point in the season?
The coaches aren't going to put them in games unless and until they feel they're ready, and they have to earn their playing time. That's one of the benefits of the way this year's roster is built. The Packers aren't forced to play any rookies who aren't fully prepared.
Zak from Huntington Beach, CA
How do you think we'll see Jaire Alexander utilized within our new defense? Will it be common for him to follow the opposing team's No. 1 receiver wherever they line up, or does Hafley tend to keep his CBs on the same side of the field for most/all of the game?
I honestly don't know what his plans are and he has no reason to divulge them beforehand. We'll just have to wait and see.
Randall from Grand Junction, CO
Mike, do you and Wes go to the Packers HOF banquet? I was looking at all the pictures.
We attend the media availability prior to the banquet and then write our stories during the event itself. This year, I took Kampman and Wes handled Matthews.
Herbert from Palm Desert, CA
Good morning. During the season one of the most asked and answered question is: What strength in Team X's game will the Packers have to be most prepared for if they are to win? Let's turn that around. If you were a Philly reporter, what would you tell an Eagles' fan their team must do to counter the Packers' strengths?
Bottle up Josh Jacobs to render play-action less effective. If Jordan Love gets the play-action game rolling, I don't know how you defend this bunch.
Megan from Noblesville, IN
Looking at the pictures for PHOF induction I noticed Bak, Crosby, and Capers. That was pretty awesome. But in regards to Wes's answer about the CM3/Palmer interaction, y'all are allowed to laugh in the press box? Always seems from your speaking of press box etiquette that everyone has to be like a silent robot or Belichick at a news conference.
Natural reactions to something funny, or an amazing play, are perfectly fine as long as they're not out of control or come across as cheering for a particular team. We're allowed to be fans of the game.
Jeff from Green Bay, WI
So you guys were able to go to Coors Field while out in Denver? Nice! I was able to see the Brewers there for a couple games last year in my quest to see all the baseball stadiums. Even got my first foul ball there. I liked the park and views of the mountains, what did you think?
Really cool park. I was impressed. Most distinct "batter's eye" in centerfield I've ever seen.
Nick from Oquawka, IL
I don't know about you but I'm awfully sick of bologna this year. I can't decide which faze of the team I'm most excited to see. Do you have one that sticks out? Here's to real football.
Bologna, baloney. Faze, phase. Hod-kuh-witz, Hod-kay-vitch. It all works.
Jeffery from Brooklyn, WI
Hello II, what one word would best describe this team this season?
Eager.
Ed from Tucson, AZ
When do you head to Brazil? Is the team traveling a bit earlier than normal for some acclimation time? I read that they found a plane which can fly direct from Green Bay, so you have that going for you.
That's my understanding as well. We leave Wednesday morning.
Jeremy from Troy, IL
Any plans for getting through the 12-hour flight to Brazil? Books, podcasts, movies? Just sleeping?
The moment I can sleep sitting up for longer than a 10-minute nap will be a watershed one. Between work, movies and a book, I'm hoping it won't feel as long as it's going to be.
Rick from Trempealeau, WI
… from the back seat … "Dad, are we there yet?"
That'll be me from the back of the plane in a couple days. Happy Monday.
