And the Packers remain alone in Threepeatville.
Sorry, not sorry.
James from Chicago, IL
Do you think they should have played Mahomes more in the preseason?
James wins the column today. Maybe for the month. Or the year. I ought to simply end it here. But I just got four days off, so …
Matt from Middleton, WI
Looks like going forward no Packer pictures will be able to be featured on II.
That might be tricky.
Brad from Northport, MI
Loved the game. Philadelphia came to win a championship, not sure what KC came for. I think they came to celebrate a three-peat and forgot they had to play the game.
This was one year the seeding in the AFC absolutely mattered. I don't think the Chiefs would've beaten both the Bills and Ravens in the playoffs, but as the top seed, they only had to beat the survivor, which they barely (and controversially) did.
Bill from Forest Park, OH
All I want for the Packers' defense next season is a pass rush like Philly's in their championship run this year. Is that too much to ask for?
It was so simple all night. Rush four, cover seven. That's all Fangio had to call. They hardly even ran any stunts up front, let alone blitzes or fire zones. Straight four, and the Chiefs couldn't block them nor find any answers. Anyone in that Philly front could've (and should've) been named the game's MVP.
Jim from Naples, FL
Bad things happen when you bundlerooskie your interceptions. Eagles won every turnover battle all postseason.
13-1 over four games. Plus-12. That'll play.
Theresa from Sylvania, OH
Was I the only one who was hoping the Eagles defense would make it a shutout?
I was. The minute I started thinking about it, and checking to confirm there'd never been a shutout in the Super Bowl, the Chiefs crossed midfield for the first time late in the third quarter. I can't believe I just wrote those last 13 words.
Matt from Fitchburg, WI
I don't know if I now feel worse or better about the Packers' playoff loss. No one else played Philly as good as the Pack, which makes you feel kinda good. It also makes you wonder what could have been if they weren't constantly also playing themselves.
The Rams came much closer to beating the Eagles than the Packers did. LA had third-and-2 from the Philly 13-yard line, down 28-22 with a minute left, when someone forgot to block Jalen Carter. The Packers climbed within 16-10 early in the fourth quarter but never got the ball back down one score. The Rams were 13 yards from the go-ahead TD at crunch time. Because of the last two games (55-23, 40-22), the Eagles will be remembered for a "dominant" Super Bowl run, but they didn't really dominate the first two rounds.
Dave from Waterford, OH
I think the Rams, a team that darn near upset the Eagles, in Philly in the snow, would've beaten the Chiefs, too. Why? Because of their dynamic defensive line.
Faulty assumption. The Eagles had a great overall defense, ranked first in the league in yards allowed and second in points. The Rams ranked 26th and 17th, respectively.
Mark from Charlotte, VT
I guess "three in a row" ain't so easy!
When you win 11 one-score games in a row, the clock is going to strike midnight at some point. I wondered if the Chiefs could get through the Super Bowl before that happened, but nope.
Paul from Hubertus, WI
It was nice to see a shout out to Green Bay at the end of the game as the most recent (only) three-peat NFL champions. Do you think they would have honored the Packers if the Chiefs had succeeded in their quest for another title?
The way that graphic was labeled, it appeared they had it prepped to use whether the Chiefs were headed for victory or defeat.
Jodi from Grand Rapids, WI
Here's a thought: Packers fans should celebrate with a beverage the moment it becomes apparent in the season there won't be a three-peat. Like next year if the Eagles are eliminated from the playoffs…drink! It will remind people of what was. Kind of like the tradition with the surviving '72 Dolphins. Come to think of it, they didn't three-peat either. Drink!
You may be onto something.
Kevin from Tinton Falls, NJ
This game once again underscores the massive importance of an offensive and defensive line. I know it's not easy to get these guys, but if you have them you're golden. Also, how good is Cooper DeJean? What a draft pick he ended up being.
Not picking on Kevin here, but this submission summed up so many I read in the immediate aftermath of the Super Bowl. Everyone touting the obvious impact of the trenches, while at the same time lamenting the Packers not getting DeJean. The Packers took … wait for it … a lineman in the first round instead (and then got Edgerrin Cooper five picks after the Eagles took DeJean). Unfortunately, Jordan Morgan's absence due to injury helped sink the offense in the wild-card round. He was supposed to be the depth to shore up that situation. Regardless, I'll never fault a GM for spending high picks on big guys.
Hannes from Glendale, WI
The Eagles won, so I suppose chances are low there will be serious discussion on the OPI call on fourth-and-2?
I thought it was a good call, and I didn't understand where Pereira was coming from with his officiating analysis most of the night.

Congratulations to Sterling Sharpe. The one thing most memorable about Sterling is that he moved like a gazelle, but was powerful like a rhino. He had a smoothness to him on the field that only the very best receivers shared.
Well said. Apt description.
George from Kennebunkport, ME
Sterling Sharpe was amazing. I attended the 1993 game at New Orleans where he got poked in the eye and missed most of the second half. On the final drive of the game, trailing 17-16, we needed a chunk play, Favre threw up a moon ball and Sterling located and caught it (he admitted later he had one eye closed), setting up the winning Jacke field goal. Even when he was double-covered he found a way to make big plays.
I had zero knowledge of that game and story, and I've been trying to figure out why. Then I remembered I was studying for a semester in Spain that fall.
Mark from Fremont, CA
Hey Mike, Sterling Sharpe. The man, the myth, the memories. Packers fans everywhere have got to be happy and should rejoice. Finally voted in. Do you have any special memories to share with us?
At the end of the 2017 season, when the Super Bowl was in Minneapolis, I drove over there for the NFL Honors show to cover the Jerry Kramer HOF decision. Sharpe was not keen on media interviews, but he kindly stopped for me and cameraman Tyler on the red carpet. I asked him about Kramer's candidacy (very supportive), potentially his own via the senior committee (he demurred), and then what he thought of the Packers having just changed GMs (to Gutey) and defensive coordinators (to Pettine). Off camera, he very astutely and matter of factly told me, "Well, if those moves don't work there's only one left to make." So I give him credit for being the first one to predict the head coaching change that occurred 10 months later.
Roger from McGrath, AK
The thrill of Sterling Sharpe getting into the HOF still resonates but is muted by Holmgren not getting selected. We knew that Sharpe was hampered by a seven-year career. Can you pinpoint what's holding voters back from voting for Coach Holmgren? He's a winner, coached three HOF QBs, and has an extensive coaching tree that is still winning Super Bowls.
Fair or not, I don't think Holmgren's coaching tree, nor what he did as San Francisco's offensive coordinator, matters in the final analysis. I do believe he deserves to get in but was victimized by the change in the voting process for the senior/coach/contributor candidates. We don't even know if Sharpe hit the 80% threshold. He might've just been the one of the five with the most votes. I'll preface this by saying I've got nothing against Bill Cowher, who was inducted five years ago, but nobody sensibly can put Cowher's achievements next to Holmgren's and only allow one of them in Canton.
Jeff from Monyezuma, IA
Now that Sterling Sharpe is in the HOF the Packers have 29 trailing the Bears by three. With Aaron Rodgers a lock and I believe Mike Holmgren, what other Packers do you feel have a shot at making it? Beat Da Bears.
I hate to say it with Holmgren, but this might've been his best and last shot. Bill Belichick will be up next year, and there are three two-time Super Bowl-winning coaches (Mike Shanahan, Tom Coughlin, George Seifert) who have yet to be pushed forward as coach candidates to have their cases fully heard. I just don't see the coach committee, with only one spot per year, spending it on Holmgren again with those others waiting. As for future candidates aside from Rodgers, Davante Adams and David Bakhtiari would get consideration next. I don't see anyone else in the pipeline for the Bears right now, though the senior committee might look again at Jay Hilgenberg.
Former Packers WR Sterling Sharpe has been named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025. Take a look back at photos of Sharpe during his seven seasons with the Green Bay Packers.

It's great to see Sterling Sharpe make the Hall of Fame, but do you find it as egregious as I that they only took four in this class, when they could have taken up to eight?
The selection committee certainly appeared to get more, well, selective this year. A class of four is the smallest in 20 years. Of this year's modern-era finalists, I believe Eli Manning, Luke Kuechly and Adam Vinatieri are all getting in at some point, but I suspect there was some sentiment among the voters that none of those three deserved "first-ballot" status. Their wait could get interesting, though, with first-time eligibles Drew Brees, Larry Fitzgerald, Jason Witten and Frank Gore entering the fray next year. They all have stronger first-ballot arguments in my opinion.
Bones from Ripon, WI
So, Shannon and Sterling Sharpe are the only brothers to be inducted into the PFHOF. Who's next, Jason and Travis Kelce, J.J. and T.J. Watt?
The odds are decent on both of those pairs, but I'll say the Mannings become the next brothers.
Nhoj from Waterloo, WI
Meant to ask this question so much earlier, but with recent league award announcements it came back to my mind. Do you think if Edgerrin Cooper played the whole season he wins the defensive ROY? I felt like he should've still been in the running even missing time.
He definitely had a shot had he been healthy from the start of training camp. As it was, Cooper finished sixth in the voting, just outside of making the finalist list.
Jeffery from Brooklyn, WI
Hi guys, are there any DEs or OLBs that are free agents available, or are there better players in this draft to wait for?
We'll see who's actually available come mid-March. I could see an edge rusher generating interest from the Packers, but that wouldn't preclude drafting one as well. Same for cornerback.
Greg from Perkasie, PA
I don't understand the notion that the Packers would be hesitant to trade their first-round pick this year simply because they're hosting the draft. If trading that first gets you a player who can help win a Super Bowl, no fan will care that they didn't make a first-round pick when they hosted the draft. That mindset seems entirely against Gutey's stance of needing more urgency and being ready to compete for championships.
I would sincerely hope there are no restrictions on Gutey with regard to the first-round pick just because Green Bay is hosting the draft.
Ben from Cripple Creek, CO
Yeah, I'm still not on the "No. 1 WR talk." What GB needs is a WR that on certain downs (could be the money down) Jordan can consistently rely on to win his route and the chains (even if they're not real anymore). A lot of times that ends up as what people call a No. 1 WR, someone who consistently moves the chains. I thought that was gonna be Romeo Doubs. He showed flashes but then had this or that issue that caused problems for him in becoming that "go-to" guy in gotta-have-it situations.
I think the design of the offense can create a No. 1 WR by way of who's the primary read on a majority of pass plays. Jayden Reed, Doubs, Tucker Kraft and Christian Watson (when healthy) all could be that target, but LaFleur hasn't built the offense that way since Adams' departure. He may take a different approach this year. We'll see.

So poor Wes goes on vacation, and the big boss gives you two days off. Talk about stealing someone's lunch when they're not even in the building.
Just to be clear, Wes does not have to use his own vacation days for "company holidays."
Steve from Hurricane, UT
I'm glad the boss gave you guys the long Super Bowl weekend off. I'm being selfish, but I hope you have to work that weekend next season. Is there a memo box I can forward my wish to make a new "Policy"?
Happy Tuesday.
