Keenan Dahl, of New Auburn High School, has been named Green Bay Packers Coach of the Week, the organization announced Thursday.
Dahl, in his second season as head coach, helped the Trojans snap a 31-game losing streak with a 34-14 victory over Cornell last Friday night. It was the first victory for the New Auburn senior class.
"I just want to thank the Green Bay Packers organization for this award," Dahl said. "It is very meaningful for a school of our size. The donation will be put to great use for our football program. The kids have worked extremely hard, and this is definitely a team award."
With an enrollment of 105 students at New Auburn, Dahl and his staff oversee a program of 26 players. He is assisted by Mike Dombrowski, Lindsey Loving, Brian Henning and Nick Jones.
Dahl attended Fairchild High School in Osseo, Wis., where he was coached by Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame member Duane Mayte. Dahl graduated from Winona State (Minn.) in 1999.
Now in his seventh year as a fourth grade teacher in the New Auburn school system, Dahl began his coaching career with the New Auburn junior high team. He was promoted to head coach of the varsity program in 2005.
The Trojans, members of Division 7, compete in the Lakeland South Conference. They play at conference foe Lake Holcombe on Friday.
The Packers will recognize one outstanding high school coach as their 'Coach of the Week' winner during the 2006 high school football season. Winners are awarded several items and privileges, including a $1,000 donation to the school's football program from the Green Bay Packers and the NFL, as well as recognition of the award on www.NFLHS.com, the NFL's high school football Web site.
Nominations for Coach of the Week should be submitted by 9 a.m. every Monday to Cathy A. Dworak, manager of community relations, at coachoftheweek@packers.com (e-mail) or by fax at (920) 569-7302. Please include the nominee's name, address, school, phone number, and reason he/she is deserving of the award.
