Lambeau Field ready for Thursday's preseason game

'Play Football Month' recognized; Fans reminded of carry-in policies

The Packers are set to welcome fans to Lambeau Field Thursday night for the preseason matchup against the Oakland Raiders.

The organization is reminding game attendees that all fans entering Lambeau Field on gamedays will use walk-through metal detectors, a league-wide mandate for use at all NFL stadium gates. The most efficient way through the detectors will be via express lanes, which can be found at each gate and used by fans entering the stadium without any bags or stadium seats.

Unlike the screening machines at airports, guests are asked to not remove any jackets, belts, coins, keys, wallets, watches, or other objects of similar size. Guests will instead be asked only to remove cell phones, cameras, tablets and other large metal objects and place these items in an extended tray alongside each machine in close proximity and in clear sight.

As in previous years, no bags or purses will be allowed inside Lambeau Field unless they are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and are no larger than 12" by 6" by 12". Small clutches that do not exceed 4.5" by 6.5" are permitted. Stadium cushions are also not allowed, however, stadium seats and stadium pads that contain no pockets or zippers and are 18" wide or smaller are allowed. Thursday's game is the annual Bishop's Charities Game, the 56th year that the Packers have designated a preseason game as the Bishop's Charities Game. To date, the series has raised more than $3.7 million for charity efforts in the Green Bay Diocese.

Continuing this tradition, Bishop Ricken of the Green Bay Diocese will greet fans at the game and present an award to the MVP from last year's Bishop's Charities Game, Brett Hundley. Kevin Wellens, a UW-Green Bay alumnus, will perform the national anthem.

During halftime, the High School Quarterback Challenge, presented by HPE and Camera Corner, will feature players from De Pere High School and Notre Dame Academy in Green Bay in an on-field competition.

To recognize 'Play Football Month,' the Packers have invited two teams from the St. Francis Xavier Youth Football League from Cross Plains, Wis., to scrimmage two teams from the Lodi Youth Football League from Lodi, Wis., during halftime, with players ranging in age from 9 to 11. In addition, the Packers have donated more than 4,100 tickets split between the team's preseason home games to youth football programs and Play 60 programs.

'Play Football Month,' a national campaign that takes place throughout the NFL preseason, incorporates youth football scrimmages at NFL stadiums and celebrates the values of the game and recognizes the efforts and contributions of youth and high school football players and coaches across the country.

The pregame festivities will also honor Stella Starry from De Pere as the "Shopko Kick-Off Kid." Adopted from Guatemala as an infant, Stella's birth country is close to her heart. After learning how needy families there choose between food or diapers for their babies, Stella wanted to help and now sells lemonade, organizes diaper drives and more to benefit those in Guatemala.
