The Green Bay Packers have announced that Michael Roemhild of Boyceville High School in Boyceville, Wis., has been named the Packers High School Coach of the Week.

Roemhild, in his sixth year as the varsity head coach of Boyceville, has the Bulldogs out to a perfect 4-0 start to the season. After a building year in his first season in 2019, Roemhild has led a complete turnaround, establishing the Bulldogs as one of the top teams in Division 7. Boyceville has recorded four consecutive winning seasons, including a 2023 record of 11-1 and the program's first outright Dunn - St. Croix conference title in 60 years. The Bulldogs' success has continued into 2024, and although the play on the field highlights the program's turnaround, Roemhild's culture change and his program's involvement with the Boyceville community have been the driving forces behind the tight-knit Bulldogs squad.

"We built this around family and that wasn't just our football players and coaches," said Roemhild. "It was people around the community that help with youth sports, work the concession stands on Friday nights, do "Mom" meals on Thursdays where the moms are getting food ready and feeding the team. We tried to get everybody involved so they feel that they have a stake in what's going on. We always break down with family and when we say it, we mean it. It's everybody buying in and trusting the system from the head coach, to the managers, to the grandparents at the game. Everybody has really bought into what we are doing around here and that's why we have the success and support that we do."

Roemhild grew up in Prairie Farm, Wis., and attended Prairie Farm High School for his freshman and sophomore years, playing quarterback under Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Famer Brad Pettit. He continued to play quarterback upon enrolling at Boyceville High School for his junior and senior years. After graduating from Boyceville in 2003, Roemhild attended the University of Wisconsin - River Falls, graduating in 2008. He began his coaching career in 2009 as a volunteer assistant at Boyceville before serving as the team's defensive coordinator from 2012-17. In 2019, Roemhild accepted Boyceville's head coaching position and has continued to lead the Bulldogs forward.

Roemhild is honored to win the Coach of the Week award and is excited to share it with those who have been by his side, working hard through it all.

"This is as much their award as it is mine," said Roemhild. "It means a lot to me. To win the Coach of the Week Award as a coach at a small school is remarkable since small schools tend to not get recognized as much as others. Which is okay, we're not about awards here, we're more about letting our play do the talking so when you get recognized with an award, it's like that cherry on top. It's that appreciation from others around the area and state that are noticing the success that we've had and the hard work that our players and coaching staff have put in to get recognized with something like this. It's an honor that I never thought I'd receive in my coaching career. I was a little speechless."

Roemhild and his staff oversee a program of 31 players, with all of them suiting up for varsity games. His assistant staff includes Brian Roemhild, Jamie Olson, Mark Roemhild and Colby Dotseth. In addition to coaching, Roemhild teaches language arts at Boyceville Middle School. Roemhild and his wife, Afton, have two sons, Logan and Benson.
