In the race for World Bowl XI, only one team has come forward. And so, heading into NFL Europe's final regular season weekend, a trio of teams remain in the hunt for the championship game's second berth.
Among them are the Scottish Claymores (5-4), who, led by the excellence of Green Bay Packers quarterback Craig Nall, have rattled off three straight wins. The Claymores don't play until Sunday, and while they must defeat the Amsterdam Admirals (4-5) to advance, they might find themselves already eliminated from bowl contention.
That's because Scotland needs a Frankfurt Galaxy (6-3) victory over the Berlin Thunder (2-7) or a Barcelona Dragons (5-4) win over the Rhein Fire (5-4) to be able to move on.
The Galaxy are the only team to clinch a spot in the World Bowl, and are coming off a 38-7 win over Rhein last weekend, in which Packers defensive back Jeremy Unertl made his third interception of the season.
If the Claymores are to play in front of their home crowd in the World Bowl, June 14, they'll rely as always on Nall, who last week had a perfect quarterback rating of 158.3, as he completed 14 of 16 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns in a 45-7 crushing of Barcelona.
The Claymores are aided defensively by Packers safety Bobby Jackson and linebackers Isaac Keys and Jermaine Petty.
The Scotland-Amsterdam game will be televised on DirecTV at 9 a.m. CT, Sunday.
Fans can watch the first-place Galaxy on FOX Sports Net at noon CT, Saturday. The Barcelona-Rhein contest, also at noon CT, will be carried on DirecTV.
