Packers' 2025 free agency rundown: New league year beckons

Green Bay has nine unrestricted free agents after recent re-signings

2024-Generic1-ES-2560

GREEN BAY – The new league year is almost here for the Packers and the rest of the NFL.

Beginning at 3 p.m. CT on Wednesday, the Packers and other 31 clubs may enter into formal agreements with outside free agents following a two-day negotiating window.

The Packers have 16 players with expiring contracts, including nine unrestricted free agents who will count towards the compensatory formula if they sign elsewhere in the coming days and weeks.

General Manager Brian Gutekunst got things going last week with the re-signing of linebacker Isaiah McDuffie and kicker Brandon McManus.

McManus, who signed with Green Bay last October, connected on 20 of 21 field-goal attempts (95.2%) and all 30 extra points in 11 regular-season games. The 11-year veteran finished the season second in the NFL in field-goal percentage.

McDuffie, a sixth-round pick out of Boston College in 2021, has recorded 206 tackles, three passes defensed and a sack in 63 games with 26 starts. He also has notched 15 coverage tackles on special teams over the past three seasons.

In addition to their veterans with expiring deals, the Packers have one restricted free agent, tight end John FitzPatrick, who will require one of the three free-agent tenders to remain with the team: first round, second round or right of first refusal.

All three tenders give the Packers the ability to match any offer sheet a restricted free agent executes with another NFL team. If Green Bay declines to match, it would receive draft-pick compensation corresponding to the tender the player received.

Six players are exclusive-rights free agents with fewer than three NFL seasons, meaning the Packers can retain them for 2025 with a one-year contract commensurate with their experience.

Once 3 p.m. CT Wednesday hits, the Packers are free to sign deals with unrestricted free agents from other teams. In 2024, the opening week of the new league year saw Green Bay bring in All-Pro safety Xavier McKinney and running back Josh Jacobs, along with re-signing cornerback Keisean Nixon.

"I'm sure there are opportunities there," said Gutekunst when asked about this year's free-agent market at the NFL Scouting Combine last month. "Every free agency class is a little bit different. This one doesn't seem to be probably as strong as some, but we'll kind of see how it goes."

Here's the full list of Green Bay's pending free agents. This will be updated throughout the offseason as deals are announced by NFL clubs:

Unrestricted free agents (9)

Restricted free agent (1)

Exclusive-rights free agents (6)
