Green Bay Packers players Randall Cobb, James Jones and Jordy Nelson joined Bellin Health President and CEO George Kerwin and a team of Bellin Health surgeons on Tuesday to announce "The Best Hands in Green Bay" competition, an event that will benefit three local charities.
On Saturday, Nov. 23, at 1:30 p.m., Cobb, Jones and Nelson will compete against one another in the Lambeau Field Atrium, using the controls of one of Bellin's da Vinci surgical robots in a series of challenges, including playing the board game "Operation" and tying the laces of a football cleat.
Each player has been assigned a Bellin Health surgeon to coach him along the way.
The players will be competing to earn their charity the lion's share of the $15,000 purse that will be split amongst the charities, depending on the outcome of the competition.
"This is a unique opportunity to educate the public about the benefits of robotic surgery, while supporting the charities designated by the players," said Kerwin. "We're happy to partner with the players and the Packers organization in what is sure to be a fun-filled event."
Randall Cobb will be playing for Blessings in a Backpack, a program that feeds underserved elementary school children, James Jones will be playing for Love Jones 4 Kids, a support organization for children, and Jordy Nelson will be playing for the sixth annual Nelson's Landing Golf Tournament, Poker Run and Auction charity.
"These players are competitors on and off the field," said Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy. "We'll see a spirited competition and most importantly, a win for each of their charities."* *
In the final round of the competition, the highest scoring Packers player will go head-to-head against Dr. Yoon Chun, a Bellin Health surgeon. Both competitors will attempt to peel a grape with the most precision using a da Vinci surgical robot. The winner will receive a trophy and earn the title of "The Best Hands in Green Bay."
Bellin also will announce the kickoff of a Facebook contest for the public. By liking Bellin Health's Facebook page (www.Facebook.com/bellinhealth), individuals will have the ability to vote on which of the players has the best hands. By voting and completing a short registration form, they will be entered for a chance to win four club level seats to the Green Bay Packers-Pittsburgh Steelers game on Dec. 22. In addition, the health system will also randomly select winners for player jerseys each week of Facebook voting.
