Packers, Bellin Health tackle flu season

Titletown Wellness program offers $15 flu shots at Packers-Saints game on Sept. 30, Bond Community Center on Oct. 1; provides free shots to residents at NEW Community Shelter on Sept. 27.

Titletown Wellness, a community health partnership between the Green Bay Packers and Bellin Health, will offer flu shots at three area events.

The public can get a jump on flu season by receiving a flu shot for $15 before the Packers-Saints game on Sunday, Sept. 30. The shots will be administered from 12 to 3 p.m. at both the Bellin Health and Oneida Nation Gates. The offer is available for anyone, not just those with game tickets.

"We're very pleased that our enhanced partnership with Bellin Health has allowed us to offer flu shots to our fans at Lambeau Field through the Titletown Wellness program," Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy said. "As two organizations who advocate for a healthy community, we encourage our residents and fans to protect themselves and their families against the flu this season."

Flu shots for $15 will also be offered at a second public event, to be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1 at the Bond Community Center, 1201 Park Avenue, Oconto, on the Bellin Health Oconto Hospital and Clinic campus. A Packers player will also be on hand to visit with flu shot recipients.

In addition, as part of its community outreach, Titletown Wellness will be offering free flu shots from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27, at the NEW Community Shelter, 301 Mather St., Green Bay. More than 200 people are expected to be offered the free service.

According to Bellin Health, 5 to 20 percent of the country's population gets the flu each year, which amounts to millions of cases. While the flu only lasts one to two days for most people, it can lead to more dangerous complications for some. "Through our relationship with the Packers and the formation of Titletown Wellness, we have a platform to have a greater impact on overall community health by offering preventative health opportunities and activities," said Bellin Health President/CEO George Kerwin. "Higher vaccination rates will help slow the spread of the flu, and provide protection for those with greater health risks."

Bellin Health and the Packers have partnered on a variety of initiatives since Bellin Health became the official healthcare partner of the Packers in 2007, including youth athlete heart screenings; Make the Right Call 911, encouraging proper use of 911 in an emergency; the Packers 5K; youth bike helmet giveaways at Training Camp; and Packers Family Night.
