The Green Bay Packers claimed P Jacob Schum off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and released P Tim Masthay. The transactions were announced Tuesday by Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson.
Schum (SHUMM), a 5-foot-10, 211-pound, second-year player out of the University at Buffalo, played in all 16 games for the Buccaneers last season, averaging 41.9 yards per punt (38.0 net average) on 56 attempts with 15 landing inside the 20-yard line and a long of 60 yards. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cleveland Browns in 2013 and also spent time with the New York Jets. Schum will wear No. 10 for the Packers.
Masthay played in 96 regular-season games (2010-15) for the Packers, punting 390 times with a 44.2-yard average per punt (38.7 net average), landing 132 punts inside the 20-yard line and recording a long of 71 yards. He also appeared in 12 postseason contests and averaged 40.1 yards (36.1 net average) on 52 attempts with 14 punts landing inside the 20-yard line.
