GREEN BAY – Packers defensive end Dean Lowry has been named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance last Sunday against the Buccaneers.
In Green Bay's 26-20 overtime victory, Lowry recorded a sack and returned a fumble 62 yards for a touchdown. It was his first career TD and marked the longest fumble return for a TD by the Packers since Keith McKenzie's 88-yarder in 1998.
Teammate Kenny Clark got the sack on the play, and as he was taking Tampa Bay QB Jameis Winston to the ground, the ball came free, and Lowry snagged it out of midair. He ran untouched all the way to the end zone and performed his first Lambeau Leap. The score gave the Packers a 17-7 lead in the second quarter.
Lowry also had a 14-yard sack of Winston on a key third down in the third quarter, his second sack of the year and fourth in his two-year career since coming to the Packers as a fourth-round draft pick out of Northwestern in 2016.
This is Lowry's first career player of the week award, and the first by a Green Bay defensive player in 2017.
