Packers, Edvest launch second year of 'Leap into Reading'

Program will award $20,000 in Edvest college savings accounts, Packers prizes

The Green Bay Packers and Edvest will again offer the popular reading promotion, "Leap into Reading," which encourages children to read during the summer while giving parents and grandparents a chance to win one of 20 Edvest college savings accounts, valued at $1,000 each, along with prizes from the Green Bay Packers.

The promotion will begin Friday, June 6, at more than 240 Wisconsin public libraries.

Children who participate in the program will have a chance to win one of 20 grand prizes, which include an Edvest college savings account valued at $1,000 each (one winner in each library system and three at-large winners) and four tickets to Packers Family Night, presented by Bellin Health at Lambeau Field. Each winning library will also receive $500.

"Leap into Reading" promotes participation in summer reading programs at Wisconsin libraries in an effort to prevent "summer reading loss," a cumulative condition that can put students two years behind their classmates by the end of sixth grade. Summer reading library programs provide extensive enrichment activities related to literature that are often not included in schools because of time constraints. Summer reading also helps keep kids entertained during the summer months by providing supervised activities that are free, safe and educational.

Last year, more than 6,000 children from more than 450 Wisconsin communities entered the program.

Children can be entered into the summer reading activities and events at local libraries. Contest registration is available online at www.edvest.com/reading or at local libraries. The entry period runs June 6 through July 20, 2014. For more information and complete contest rules, visit www.edvest.com/reading.

"Leap into Reading" is sponsored by the Edvest College Savings Plan, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and the Green Bay Packers.
