Packers fans on their way to New Orleans

I'm glad I'm not the scoreboard guy in Denver

Nate from San Diego, CA

Peyton Manning is upset the team promoted the Broncos fans having a good time at the game? Wow!

Do you think the scoreboard guy got any sleep last night?

Mark from West Allis, WI

Many people had Rivers pegged as midseason MVP, and Denver dominated. How long can they sustain this caliber of play?

I have no doubt they can sustain it through the regular season.

Aaron from Dallas, TX

Is it champing at the bit or chomping at the bit? I say chomping.

It was champing until we said chomping for so long the English grammar people surrendered.

Justin from Dacula, GA

Flags, flags everywhere. How could anyone enjoy watching this?

Vic to league: Stop! My inbox is in penalty meltdown.

Mike from Statesville, NC

Did you notice how CBS/NFL Network had the field mics turned way up when the Broncos were on offense? Omaha!

I was thinking the same thing. TV knows what resonates. They play us like fools.

Dave from Savage, MN

What do you remember about the expansion Saints? I remember the cool names: D'Artagnan Martin and Bivian Lee, and I remember Tom Dempsey's kick.

I remember Danny Abramowicz, Tulane Stadium, Al Hirt and that St. Bernard dog.

Devin from College Park, MD

I read an interesting article today that said the University of Texas may start paying student athletes around $10,000 a year in addition to what they already get in scholarships. What is your take on this?

It's where college football is headed. I would like to see some kind of standardization of subsidies, before programs keep trumping each other to attract recruits. With the NCAA largely having been neutered by the big five conferences, somebody better grab the rudder before major college football sails into dangerous waters.

Dave from West Allis, WI

Morgan Burnett missed 17 tackles in 2013, and I think he missed a few games early in the season. Fans might have been harsh on him last year, but he clearly is playing much better this year.

That's the defense? We were right? How about supporting a guy in a tough year? My inbox was full all summer with questions and comments that wanted to push Burnett out. So where's the defense for that? You were wrong.

Sean from San Diego, CA

Vic, what is with your inbox? Last week everyone was worried the Packers were going to lose at home to the Panthers, and now this week they are ready to claim victory on the road against the Saints. I feel like with one dominant win fans are ready to set the cruise control to the playoffs. The Packers still have a long way to go to win the division.

The Packers are 5-2 and the Saints are 2-4, but I would make the Saints' odds of winning the NFC South the equal or better of the Packers' odds of winning the NFC North. Why? Because of strength of division. The NFC North has two 5-2 teams and only one of them can win the division title. The NFC South doesn't have a team with a winning record. I think the Saints are still the best team in that division. The moral of the story is expect the unexpected. Don't try to decide anything. Just watch and wait.

Andrew from Miami, FL

What do you think of the Bengals' collapse? They looked like the best team in the league early on, and now they look lost. Usually something like this would be caused by the quarterback, but Dalton hasn't looked half bad. How do I make sense of this team going forward?

It's ebb and flow. Don't try to make sense of anything. It can't be done. How do you explain the first snap of the Super Bowl going over the quarterback's head? Not enough practice?

Eric from Green Bay, WI

Vic, time of possession is overrated. It's like what came first, the chicken or the egg? Let's jump on them early, then grind it out and let the clock tick with the running game. Make sense?

Yeah, it makes sense. Do that and you'll probably win time of possession. TOP is overrated when you don't win it and you win the game, but it wasn't overrated in Miami. Reverse TOP in that game and the Packers are toast. I think TOP will be important on Sunday.

James from Chicago, IL

Packers fans travel well and New Orleans is a destination city. I suspect there will be a lot of green and gold in the stands. I suspect homefield advantage won't be quite the usual advantage for the Saints on Sunday night.

I've received a lot of emails to my inbox from fans on their way to New Orleans, so I, too, expect to see a lot of Packers fans in the Superdome, but I don't think it'll lessen homefield advantage much. Saints fans are viewing this game as the last stand. They'll be loud.

Doug from Eagan, MN

Vic, I have watched Ha Ha Clinton-Dix's development since training camp. Though he has not had an interception, he seems pretty fearless and getting good hits in games. I think the Packers struck gold by picking him in the first round. Your thoughts?

The fans made a great pick.

Robin from Flagstaff, AZ

I'll admit I love the drama, so do you think a small part of McCarthy wanting to beat Payton is because they both came into the league at the same time?

No, not at all. These guys are pros. They don't think like that.

Bill from Wilmington, DE

If the Packers lose on Sunday night, season ban for chortling for Scott from Lincoln City, OR?

Yep.

Robbie from Dublin, Ireland

What are your thoughts on the Texans? I think they're a QB away from being serious playoff contenders.

Give that coach a premier quarterback and look out.

John from Big Rock, IL

How do you think our running game will do against the Saints?

I'm expecting the Packers to run the ball early, often and well.
