Fans And Hunters Are Sporting The Orange With Nearly 12,000 Caps Purchased Thus Far
The Green Bay Packers' "Hunting Down Hunger" orange caps are proving to be a popular item for fans thus far this season, with nearly 12,000 sold. Proceeds from the cap sales will support the effort to fight hunger in Wisconsin communities.
"Fans have been very enthusiastic about the caps," said Kate Hogan, Packers director of retail operations. "We've had a lot of hunters purchase caps, too, with bow season underway and gun season right around the corner. We're pleased with sales thus far."
Through sales of three styles of hunter orange hats with the Packers' 'G,' two baseball caps, one orange and one with a camouflage pattern, and an orange cold-weather knit hat, the team will raise money for donation to statewide pantries, shelters and other organizations that have programs supporting hunger relief. The hats also have the words "Hunting Down Hunger" on the left side.
Each sale of the hat, with caps priced at $15 and the knit cap at $10, will result in a $5 donation going to charity. Caps are available online at www.packersproshop.com, as well as at the Packers Pro Shop, Packers Pro Shop Extra Points and concession stands on gamedays.
The campaign also is encouraging the more than 600,000 Wisconsin hunters to consider donating their venison to the Wisconsin Deer Donation program that feeds the hungry. According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the program, which began in 2000, has seen hunters donate nearly 70,000 deer which were processed into more than 3.1 million pounds of ground venison. Programs are available statewide and serve many needy families. More information on the program is available online by clicking here.
In the hunting spirit, the caps will be on sale at Hunt for the Hungry's "Buck Fever Night" Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Stadium View Banquet Hall. Hunt for the Hungry is the deer donation program in northeast Wisconsin. More information about Hunt for the Hungry is available online by clicking here.
The Packers previously raised more than $1.8 million for charity efforts through three similar campaigns: breast cancer (pink caps, 2005-06), heart disease (red caps, 2006-07) and support of service men and women and their families (dark gray, 2007-08).
