The Green Bay Packers on Monday launched m.Packers.com, a team Web site for fans who use mobile devices to access the Internet for information about their favorite team.
The site utilizes a mobile device-friendly platform to display the main information from the team's Web site, Packers.com, such as stories, press releases, transcripts, game schedule, rosters and statistics.
The new site will serve as a convenient companion to Packers Mobile Alerts, a program launched in September that texts team news and other information to subscribers. Upon receiving a text about the team, a user can switch over to the device's browser and log on to m.packers.com to view more information.
"More and more Packers fans are using their mobile devices, including cell phones, to access information about the team online, and this is another service we can offer to enhance their connection to the club," said Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy. "As this use grows, we'll look to add additional features to the site."
According to Nielsen Mobile, 95 million Americans subscribe to mobile Internet access and 40 million of them regularly go online with their phones, a figure that has increased twofold from two years ago. Surveys also show that mobile Internet use is growing at a pace several times faster than Internet use via desktop or laptop computers.
For visitors to Lambeau Field, the site also has convenient information about gameday programs and policies, as well as a calendar for everyday events at the stadium. The site also features a calendar that lists Packers player and coach appearances in the community that are open to the public.
To access the site, mobile device Internet users can direct their browsers to m.Packers.com for the site's main page.
DMiNTERACTIVE, the Green Bay company that created and hosts Packers.com, produced the site in conjunction with the Packers. Packers Mobile Alerts is produced by 4INFO in conjunction with the Packers.
