The Green Bay Packers Wednesday re-signed linebacker Torrance Marshall to a restricted free-agent tender, GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman announced.
Marshall is the team's second restricted free-agent signing in as many days; the Packers re-signed tight end David Martin Tuesday. Safety/cornerback Bhawoh Jue is the team's last of five original restricted free agents. Marshall, Martin and Jue did not receive offers from other teams during the restricted free-agent singing period, March 3-April 16. Green Bay re-signed safety Curtis Fuller Feb. 25 and did not extend an offer to defensive tackle Rod Walker, allowing him to sign with Carolina.
In 2003, Marshall backed up at all three linebacker spots and posted career highs in total tackles (24). A key contributor on special teams, he collected 14 coverage stops (fifth on club) and a fumble recovery (Dec. 7 vs. Chicago). On Nov. 27 at Detroit, starting at middle linebacker for an inactive Nick Barnett (ankle), Marshall sacked Joey Harrington, broke up a pass and tallied a career-best 10 tackles.
The 6-foot-2, 255-pound Marshall was Green Bay's second of two selections in the third round of the 2001 draft. A two-year starter at the University of Oklahoma, Marshall is one of eight current Green Bay players who won a Division I national championship. He led the Sooners to the title in the 2001 Orange Bowl, earning game MVP honors.
