The Green Bay Packers have signed RB Dimitri Nance and DE Jarius Wynn and placed RB Ryan Grant and DE Justin Harrell on injured reserve. The transactions were announced Tuesday by Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson.
Nance, a 5-foot-10, 219-pound rookie, was signed from Atlanta's practice squad. He originally joined the Falcons this spring as a non-drafted free agent out of Arizona State. Nance was an honorable mention All-Pac-10 selection as a senior when he rushed for 795 yards and six touchdowns, the second straight season he led the Sun Devils in rushing. He will wear No. 23.
Wynn, the first of two sixth-round picks by Green Bay in 2009, played in 11 games as a rookie last season. He was released by the Packers in the final roster cutdown this year on Sept. 4. A 6-foot-3, 285-pound second-year player, Wynn will wear No. 94.
"These are unfortunate injuries for our team," said Thompson, "but we all know football is a tough game.
"It's difficult when you lose players to injury. We felt like Justin was going to make a contribution to our team. The timing of his injury and the way it occurred was unfortunate.
"When you lose a running back of Ryan's caliber, it's a big loss. But this is something we have to deal with and move forward from as a team. We have confidence that our other players will step up and meet the challenge of these losses.
"Our medical people will do a great job with Justin and Ryan, and we expect each to make a full recovery from their injuries."
Grant (ankle) and Harrell (knee) sustained injuries in the season opener at Philadelphia on Sunday.
